I don't know if I'd try the Propshop. I had some work done on a prop last week, and they couldn't tell me if the pitch on my prop was 11 or 12. They also repainted my prop and the first time I had it out, about half the paint came off.

I was very surprised as I'd heard nothing but good things about them.

Phils Props in Redding California. I think he has a website. I have taken my boat there and we went to Shasta Lake and tried out different ones. He is really good at this.

Go to his website and see what you can do.

From what I've been able to find in researching prop selection is that you really have to test drive it to get the one you need. Your motor is designed to top out at a specific RPM; too high or low and you risk damage (quickly or slowly, respectively). Running the motor in a tank won't work either; your hull shape, wind drag and overall boat weight play into it. You have to run the boat with a tach and test drive each prop. Even among a group of props that all top out at the right RPM, there are still differences. Some props will give you hole shot and others will give you top speed.

Mercury Marine has a prop selector that is pretty good - you fill in the information including altitude and desired performance and it reccomends a prop.
