Low Budget Rod Organizer

Are you one of those guys that gets done fishing all day and comes home and leans your rods in corner of the garage :shrug:

I was :idea:

I put this rod organizer together for just under $7.00

The frame is made of 1" X 2"'s. The rod holder part is standard PVC pipe cut in 10" lengths and placed 8" apart.

I drilled a 1/4" hole on the top and bottom of one side of each piece of PVC. On the opposite side a 1/8" hole was drilled for a screw to go through. Your larger hole allows your screwdriver to go inside the PVC and drive the screw through the backside of the PVC and into the wood frame.

Simple to build and keeps my rods an a very orderly manner.

Not a chance ! I have a plan. I'm going to build on to the garage and the rods to garage ratio will be in current proportion. :grin:

You just need to make a panel that goes in between the studs in your garage. Then you can put two rods on the front and two more on the back. You just spin it around to that it hides the two rods on the back of the board. Twice as much rod storage and it'll take an actively interested wife to notice. It'd be like the Bat Cave for fishing rods!

For me it was easier to keep them up top. I took 2 1"x4"s and spaced out the hooks, alternating big one then small one (on the small hooks I added some rubber tubing to keep the rod of the metal of the hook). I was able to 12 a side (24 total). They are totally out of the way and protected. Plus for those of us that live on the East side with our low garages this is the best option.

Pearl, I noticed that you do not have a reel on the one rod to the right end. I'll swap a reel for some of your ingenuity. I've also been using the pvc tubes as a base stand in the garage for a number of years. I still have no idea of how many rods I have but can tell you that it's a great system and works verly well.

I suppose all those rods have already been on that new boat you picked up about March. It's a beauty.

Good job Chromer, I like the idea the KISS principle always works. If your like me all my fishing tackle always comes from these great garage sales that have new gear for sale. And when I talk about a new pole my encourages me to watch those garage sales since I always seem to find the gear Im looking for and always in new condition.

I just noticed this post. Thanks for both the idea's. I built a free standing one. When I figure out how to put up a picture I'll send you one. I like your idea's and am going to put one on the ceiling this winter. Between me 2 sons and wife that's a lot of poles.....

That driftboat looks familiar....I had one exactly like that sitting under my carport for a couple of months while you were remodeling your kitchen. Then one day I came home and it was gone.. :shrug:

If you're gonna extend your garage, see if ya can't sneak in a new/longer driftboat...maybe wifey won't notice :idea:

Thanks for the visual!! I've been plotting how to get my rods out of the way in my garage, and keep the reels clean. With the wood sanding and painting that I've been doing, my rods have been hiding under old towels. Now I can hang 'em high!!

I've had a few people ask how far apart I placed the hooks on each side and how far apart I put the 1"x4"s so I thought I would post it for everyone else.

I put the hooks 4" apart and spaced the 1"x4" at 74".

I have rods from 8' to 10'6" and it works perfect.

Hey these are some great idea's. I'm one of those guys that have the old berkley foam rod holders stuck where I can find room. Really like the PVC, but in my room heigth is a problem, so maybe PVC attached to the ceiling and open rubber covered hook at the other end might work too??:smash:

Hey Pearl, we did it today and just love it! :smash: We don't have as many rods as you but 10 laying around the garage waiting to be broken forced Lou and i to finally do it. Thanks so much for the pic. :bowdown:
