went out on the Columbia Saturday out of Vancouver mostly fished a split shot rig with 3" watermelon senko's and 4" roboworms Fished 10 am-3pm kinda just a short milk run. caught about 20 fish but only three of any size at all both of them around the 14 inch range. Got yelled at by some skiboat bum for fishing the mouth of the marina and apparently being in his way or so he thought. He gave me a nice wake to remember him by. Wouldn't have been so bad but i was only 2 feet off the rip rap so as to be out of everyones way I wonder if he realizes that he is legally liable for any damage his wake causes???
Sunday I went out to lacamas lake hoping the threat of foul weather would keep the pleasureboaters away it did to some extent.. fished buzzbaits and frogs without getting bit then switched to a spinnerbait and started getting bit by small fish up shallow, i moved to the outside weed edge hoping to increase size a bit.. I came to a large laydown on the south bank in about 6 feet of water. I cast up across it then as it came over the laydown I killed it and allowed it to sink to the bottom and that's when she nailed it. i set on her and realized it was a good fish then she goes under tha boat and actually takes out drag ( very rare for even very large largemouth) I get her out from unfer tha boat and lip her. My conservative estimate was 6lbs, biggest fish of the year so far. SHe was in beautiful condition and appeared to be fully recovered from spawning, released her and continued on down the weed edge without another bite.. Wish i had a pic..
anyway fishing wasn't super but at least if got out..
By the way the fish in the columbia are out of the backs of the coves and in their summer time haunts on current seams feeding on shad fry I saw several chasing them...
