Well took off yesterday to hit the lower CR for eyes.
Nothing to show for it but a sunburn! Did notice a Nitro fishing the cliffs for green fish... didn't look like walleye water so must've been bass they were after. Any one of us own a nice new Nitro??? Friendly guys. Should've stopped and said hi but was in a hurry to get home.
Fished Rooster up to Beacon. Water temp 63F. Wind: Calm in the morning and later got the afternoon West blow w/ white caps. (Sure glad I have the Crestliner now, nice to stay dry!)
Fished my normal spots on the bars. Water is still a bit high (I figure about 6-7ft high) and a touch cool for good summer fishing. Rooster Rock launch had about 8ft of water.... later it drops to 2ft!! Out on the bars I was reading 19ft where I usually read 12ft. So I ran 20ft and then dropped into 15ft. The new boat doesn't have as good a finder as the Tracker, so I couldn't say I was or wasn't marking fish. (Got a new Lowrance GPS/Sounder unit to mount up yet. Will be nice to get back to seeing fish arcs.)
Oh... I didn't see a single other walleye fisherman. I don't think it's too early, but the water level does need to come down a bit and we could use another 5F temp.
Anyway I fished till about 11am and then headed up to the dam to drop a hook for salmon. Boy quite a few guides up there!! Must've been 50 boats from Beacon to the dam. Saw one fish netted right when I got there. But didn't pick up anything myself.
Later I hit a couple spots for eyes on the way home. Still nothing. Put 43 miles on the boat (GPS) and she ran like a champ. Still getting a feel for her fuel range. Was surprised how far it is up there. Boat holds ~31gal and still had 1/4 tank left. Need to go fuel it back up and see what I actually burned.
Anyway, good luck to ya'll this weekend.
I might sneek back out Sunday.
