As i was remembering the post awhile back about spinnerbaits, I was wondering what casting rod (length, line wt., brand, etc.) was everyone using, or would recommend. I am in the market for a spinnerbait rod, they are one of my favorite lures. Right now, all I have is spinning rods, still making the transition to casting. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Personally, I use a 6' rod and 10# line.

for spinner baits I like a 6'6" rod that's pretty stout but has a little lighter tip. but not too lite.. it's soo hard to describe rod actions in words.. maybe someone has the words but i don't

I'd say it depends on whether you'll be fishing for SM or LM, and how big/heavy the spinnerbaits you like.
I just got a new spinnerbait rod this winter, basically for object oriented casting, so 6' (more accurate). My last one was 6'MH Bionic Blade, and I considered getting another, but it would not cast a 3/8 oz spinner reliably/easily. It was great with 1/2 oz spinners. So, I decided that I wanted a more limber rod that would cast lighter spinners, and got a BPS Extreme 6'M. It works great with 3/8 and 1/2, but I haven't tried 1/4 oz yet. Nice rod, good deal with a Curado, too. I use 14 lb Pradco Super Silver Thread and a standard LH Curado 201 6.2:1. The heavier line is probably easier to cast, but mainly allows a slower retreive.
This is THE best way to get used to a baitcaster quickly. Lots of casts, little trouble with snags. Short and accurate casts will be a good skill to develop. Long casts with little regard for accuracy will not be as significant, IMO, but if you fish for Smallies, that will sure produce. When you get good with a baitcaster, you'll find you can skip a spinnerbait under a dock pretty easily, at least if you're having a "good" day. C&R, Steve

Thanks for all the info everyone. Maybe you'd be interested in selling? :jester: I'm leaning towards a 6'6'', 8-17lb, from bass pro. sound ok for LM?

I recently purchased a combo from Bass Pro Shops. A 6-6 Extreme with a Shimano Curado. Its a Woo Daves signature spinnerbait rod and works great for me. It hadles all my spinnerbait needs and then some. Heck of a price too...$140. The rod alone retails for $99 and the reel is always around $119
