So far so good...maybe. I'm trying to put my picture inplace of the picture of a roll of 35mm film can.

Well.......that didn't work. All I did was put up a huge picture of myself. Sorry, that isn't what I wanted to do. I just wanted a small head shot instead of the roll of film can.

I have been tying to upload a picture of my son holding up a large salmon. The message I get is the picture is to large.
Went to "Paint" and after hitting Attributes it showed only the upper left side of the picture.
What now?
I give up, it's to complicated for me.

If the photo is too big, Then CROP it to make it smaller and set your digital camera to a smaller size snap shot. You can also resize the photo (as you can see by the photos at the bottom of this post!). You can combine several small photos (but quality is a big problem when you do this. You should always crop and "save as" a Jpeg! I hope this helps!

InBassPursuit,
Welcome to Ifish. Sandz gave a good tutorial on how to upload images. Heres how you can resize your images rather than cropping them.
First off, it sounds like you are using Microsoft Paint to edit your pictures. MS Paint is a very basic and limited application that is included with windows. If you are take a lot of digital images you will have to use a more capable application.
A better (not best) application is Microsoft Photo Editor that is included with MS Office. If you already have MS Office installed then you can find it by clicking Start > Programs > Microsoft Office Tools > Microsoft Office Photo Editor. Open your picture in Photo Editor and then resize it to meet Ifish's image size requirements, which is 200K per image. To do this... in the menu click Image > Resize. To make the image smaller enter a smaller percentage. Save the new resized image. If the new image is still larger than 200K, then continue the above steps so that the image meets the requirements.

Also note that the Ifish Gallery only allows the upload and viewing of the jpg, jpeg, png, and gif file types. It does not support the bmp (bitmap) file type.
Good Luck.

I just downloaded (twice) Microsoft Power Toos. It included their resizer. But after getting it and clicking on it all I got was a "read me" file. Nothing else. I dumped it again. Must be a way to do it. I just don't know it.

If you have power tools for XP then you can simply right click on the picture, say "RESIZE PICTURE" then a dialog box will pop up. Make sure you click SMALL and then click OK. There should be a copy that apears at the bottom of your file (depending on how you sort your files) of the same picture, same name, BUT it will say "BlahBlahBlah (COPY)"
Note that the BlahBlahBlah is a simulated fake name i just used it holds no use to you...

I did download Power tools for XP and all I got was a read only file....as far as I could tell. After two attempts I just blew it away. Must have done something wrong I guess.
I have a Fuji didital camera so when I checked my Fuji FinePixViewer there was a place where I could resize photos. I just guessed as to what size to make it and just cut the pixles in half both ways. It worked! It's a little smaller than what I would like but it will do for now. :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
Now,, if I could just figure out how to replace that film can with a small picture of myself.
Thank's for all of your help!

Yea.....!!!!!! That's it.....!!!!!!!!!
I don't know how you did it but that is it!
Do you hav a short version of how you did it? .....or did you just pick it out of the gallery?
Thank's for showing it to me....that's great... :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:
The tutorial is the way to go ... also, note that if your image is more than about 600 bytes wide, it will cause the screen to scroll and people won't be able to read the posts or see the picture without messing around with the scroll bar so please size your images for optimal viewing.

when you are entering a post, you will see a small box below your text you are entering. The name of the box is "instant ubb code". Inside that box is the word "image". Click on that word and paste the file name that is located at the bottom of your photo in the IFISH galery.
Keep trying it's the only way to learn.

Thanks, Roger! I tried it on a test and it worked !!! It isn't easy to read and try to follow directions.
I struggle, so it seems.
But after seeing it work, it's easy! You have helped me, thanks again for that.
About 8 or 9 years ago I fished Silver with a friend of mine who used to live in Washington. Actually we didn't do all that well. Still it was enjoyable. I notice you start fishing very early. I know if you want to catch fish be there at first light. Used to do that when I was a kid. Now I wait untill it's nice and a little warmer. And on occasion can still come up with a nice fish. Fishing is to be enjoyed. It's really not about how much and how big.
Used to fish a lot of tournaments in the 70's and 80's. I'm on my 3rd bass boat. Sold my nice Ranger a few years ago and got a small Skeeter Strada 15 footer. I like it for just having fun fishing without the competion factor.
I been by myself now for 10 years now and sometimes I like to pick up a lady friend and just fish and picnic on the lake.

what you did wrong was you didnt copy and paste the thing that goes around that
That's a real good fish picture, but the process to get it posted is not simple, it's complicated. I am sure once you discouver the system it is simple but until that happens it is complicated.

Know anything about the clipboard? I have put the picture on it from the gallery but now I can't find the clipboard. http://www.ifish.net/gallery/data/500/35_pounder_Umpuqa_River_Sept_9th_04.JPG
I just clicked on Instant UBB Code,Image and added it to see what would happen.

the clipboard ur talkin about is a virtual MRU list on your pc. Basically its a memory of all of your things you have right clicked on and said "copy" or "cut". It keeps track of the last 20 i believe...

One of the questions was how to replace the 35mm film can as your Avatar. Much easier...maybe. If you go to the top of the page, you'll see a hot link that says "My Home". Click on that. Then scroll down the page until you see the line "Main Configuration". Next line down says "Personal information, email, password, etc. Edit"
There's a little profile icon on the left and a pencil above the "edit". Click on edit. You'll see the way to post a new Avatar. It tells you what types of files can be used, and that they must be no bigger than 50 pixels x 50 pixels.
You will need to crop AND resize your photo to that size or smaller. Additionally, compression may or may not be needed. You should be able to post the file in the album on iFish or maybe you can put it online at your ISP or Email provider and link to it. File size for an Avatar is typically less than 15kb, but I don't know if there is a kb limit or not. How to crop, resize and compress photos is a whole 'nuther subject, and best reserved for PM's. I'll help, if I can. I used MS Photo Editor until I got my new confuser, and now have to learn new software, due to Win XP being such a different scheme. Rats!
To make use of any informational posts, you might want to print them, but the quick way is to just open a second browser window, also open iFish in that one, and have the informational posts on one window and do your photo or avatar posting on the other. Similarly, if you need help with reworking photos to post, either print the instructions or have two browser frames open. Yes, it can get a little confusing! With actual fishing techniques, the best thing is print the info, fold it up, slip it into a ziplock bag, and put it in with your tackle. C&R, Steve
