Something not mentioned here is this...
If you have grabby brakes...or one that continually locks up on you, inspect it for contamination (grease from a blown seal, or leaking brake fluid from a wheel cylinder).
If your brake linings get contaminated, they may continue to lock up or grab even after you clean them up.

Fishin'Mission, that's a good site you found on trailer maintence. Everyone who operates a trailer should read it.

hey, thanks for the tip on the brake locking from contamination, I just had this happen on one of my trailers and hadn't had time to look at it. The day before, I noticed that I had blown a seal and had grease all over the place. Any suggestions on what to use to clean up the break pads? Alcohol or Acetone maybe?
Engine cleaner should do it. Buy the kind in a spray can and spray the lining with it and then wash off with water. Let dry and it should be good as new.
Good Luck!

FYI..Mine(one side) was locking....I cleaned that side up with Brakleen..and they continued to lock up. After many hours of researching brake lock-ups (due to contamination) almost all sites I visited said to replace your contaminated linings. I suppose cleaning them up first is a good option..but it didn't work on my brakes.
Also had another fella tell me if you heat (but not burn) your linings...it will bring the contaminants to the surface. Supposedly the truckers have been known to do this often.
If you can get 'em to not lock up by just cleaning them up without replacing them..cool!
