I have narrowed it down to 2 minnkota bowmount trolling motors for my 20' sled.
One is a cable control 101 lb. thrust and the other is the electric control autopilot 74.

The price is basically the same what one should I get and why? I need to make a decision within a couple days...THANKS

Go with the cable control. I have had both and really like the quicker steering that you get from the cable control. In time you will learn where your motor is pointed by just putting your foot on the pedal. The autopilot models never felt comfortable to me. You have to keep looking down to the motor to see wich way it is pointed. And then rely on the motor to turn the unit for you.

Both have their good and bad points, but in the long run I think you would be happier with the cable control model. Besides, more power for the same amount of money is a good thing also.

Rebell allway's speaks the truth !!!!!
I allso have owned both and found the same problems that were talked about . The motor control is so slow that your sled will be out of control in the wind . I had a 22 foot inboard and was happy that i could sell my motor control for only a 50% loss of dollars . I love my cable control .

Snagfish,
Like Rebell & Shalom said, cable is by far superior for bass work. Cable is faster to respond and the sissor mount is fast to deply & retract.

But the Autopilot has it's place as well. It depends on the amount of trolling you plan to do. I see you said 20ft "Sled" as if you do a fair bit of salmonid or walleye trolling???

If so I'd go w/ the Autopilot and add the wireless Copilot as well. I've got two AP's, a 42lb on My Tracker and a 55lb on my Crestliner. I use the AP for steering and still run the kicker as a pusher. Works great in the wind and the AP's main job is to simply hold heading. On a hook-up I kill kicker and use the bowmount to flip the boat around to land the fish. I use both the remote and the pedal. Remote when feet up & kicked back and pedal to net & land.
Works very well for me. Your wise to go with the highest thrust. I highly recommend you have 2 banks of 24v or 4 batteries. Your going to eat up the batteries. Using the kicker as a pusher helps a LOT! But you'll still eat'em up faster than you think.

If you only plan to use it for bass'n, then go cable.

tracker,
I went with the MAxxum cable 101 w/3 group 31's because I bass fish ALOT.
I have the T8 for trolling. I havent really walleye fished to much but I will be getting into it.

I appreciate the info

Good deal! Better to go big from the start than to WISH you'd gone bigger. A lot of my fishing is in the wind and the bigger the better!
The AP up front steering works well for me, but a TR1 would be even better!!! :applause:
