Is there a store in Eugene where I could see a Secko? Would also like to find the smaller version of the Zarra Spook. Caught lot's of largmouth with the Zarra but now would like to try it on smallmouth.

My son and I caught well over 50 smallmouth in the Umpqua Tuesday from a driftboat. Most were dinks, but a few were not.

Need to get my small Skeeter Starda F-80 out of the garage and try Dexter again for smallmouth it's been sitting way to long... About 10 years ago there were nothing but chubs, squafish, and now there are called pike minnow.

You can find Senko's at G.I. Joe's, or at Two Bro's Tackle!

Sorry MonkeyBoy,
You can always order them from BassPro or Cabelas. Most of the GiJoes in the Portland area carrys them, so I thought maybe they did in Eugene. Good luck!!!!!

There are several alternatives to the Senko which feature better durability and price. The best that I've found are Madtom's "Magic Stik" and WackyWorms' "Wacko" which comes in many lengths and two diameters and the only Senko style bait that is offered in smoke/copper flake which is a KILLER color on the Snake.

GI Joes in Eugene has them, and I'm pretty sure most Bi Marts around here have them also. I wont be all that surprised when you start seeing them at 7-11

Yesterday I check Bi-Mart. They do not have them. Today I went to Wallmart. Not any there either. On the way home Istoped at GI Joes. Nope, not any there either.

GI Joes did have the Zarra Spook Pup. One black and silver and one light blue on top and white on the bottom. I was going to buy both but dicided just to take the black and white one. At the checkstand I handed the cleark a five dollor bill. It wasn't enought. The exact price was (I think) $6.97 for that tiny little bass lure. I put the money back in my pocket. Think I'll go online and check Bass Pro. I still have some tiny topedo's and lots and lots of others.

Oh I can't believe Joes doesn't have them. Yamamoto & Yum's at ours... are you sure??

Check out alluringbaits.com
Brett is FAST, 3days to your door. No joke.
I got Pumpkinseed, Smoke red, Pearl/silver, and craw/Orng swirl. All looked real fishy and I had to stop there.
I got 3" but wish I would've got some 4" as well.
Maybe Brett would do the 50pk half 3" half 4"???
Ask. He seems open minded.

I agree with walleye tracker, I have ordered close to 300 from alluring baits, they are inexpensive, good quality and selection, fast shipping, and CHEAP!!!!!!!! I have been totally satisfied so far.

As for in town, go to 2 bros. tackle
They are on McKinley over off W.11th If you need better directions, myself or someone can walk you to it. I have only been there once but they have a great selection and are very nice/helpful, if you ask they will walk you through rigging them up, selection, etc.

Good luck!

I have visited Two Bors maybe a year ago. They have a nice store with some good bass products. At the time I asked if they had Gitsits. They said they would get some in any color I wanted.

Used to buy a lot of stuff at Baxters but he has retired now and the store is gone. He is a good fishing partner.

Mr. Baxter took me on my first ride on a bass boat, and I have only been on two! (my second being a few weeks ago w/ Stefan Z) When I was in grade school or middle school (about 18 years ago???) he took me and a friend to Triangle lake to fish in some sort of kids bass tourney. It was great! He was a nice guy and I was sorry to see him and his store retire.

I have a general rule for finesse plastics in the Senko type:

1) Weightless: Senko (heavier and work better weightless)
2) Splitshot, carolina: YUM Dingers, etc (cheaper and hold up a bit better)

I would not see why GI Joes would not have either or both of these, but I am not familiar with Eugene.

As far as Zara Spooks or Heddon lures in general, Joes and Fisherman's have a [petunias!]-poor selection--best to just order from Cabelas or Bass Pro. How cool would a Bass tackle shop be in the PDX area? I would live there. Also, I would be able to escape the store without adding to my Corkie and Vibrax collection. ><

Good Luck!

Two Bro's will have a bunch in 3 or four of the sizes and quite a good color selection.

There is a good chance that G.I.Joes and Bi-Mart both have Senko's . While fishing at Brownlee a fishermen turned me on to Paddle Bugs . It was the only lure that his wife would use . He said to go to wal-Mart to buy them . I looked and looked and looked some more after being told that they didn't carry them . I finally found them . I have sent several friend to Wal-mart , and they were told that they didn't carry them . I have never been to a Wal-Mart store and have any one know what they looked like . I went with them and after looking and looking would finally find them . They are small and hard to find . They look like a small frog about as long as your thumbnail .If you dont know what Senkos look like , they will be hard to find .

I buy mine directly from the manufactuer...with shipping it comes out to about the same as when you go to a tackle store. Plus side is that you can get any of the colors.

I got screwed looking for senko's myself, as the bags that they came in at Sportsman's were labled "Yamasenko". Found 'em, bought 'em, getting 'em wet Saturday at Brownlee :yay:. Here's a good site WITH PICTURES that show most/all types of ways to rig these critters: Rigging Plastics (http://www.insideline.net/articles/rigging-guide.html)
Good luck fellers!

Everyone on this board needs to expand their horizons and try other finese baits. My idea of a good angler is someone that can identify the conditions and throw baits based on those conditions. 'Cause when the Senko bite dies, where will you be? In not saying not to use Senkos, and I use them. What Im saying is that the fish after a while, are going get smart and not bite on them, cause it's all that they are seeing. Every bait in your tackle box has been proven to catch fish, it's just knowing when to use them that is important.

I appreciate the advice. The topic on this thread was regarding senkos, which might be the reason that the people posting on it offered advice on senkos and their uses.

I'm thinking I'll go buzz some pads with senkos tonight, or maybe crank my senkos on some weedlines. Maybe pop a few senkos on the surface after dark too.

"What Im saying is that the fish after a while, are going get smart and not bite on them, cause it's all that they are seeing."

After I catch the 4,000,000th smallie that lives in the Brownlee, Oxbow, Hells Canyon complex, I'll ask him if that's true. Granted there are other lures that work-much to the all the other lure manufacturers relief- and are more fun such as top waters, but senkos and their ilk are deadly.

To the person that suggest using a jig w/a senko; you're defeating the action. A senko will shimmy at both ends as it drops weightless; that's what makes it different from other lures. This is readily apparent when rigged wacky style.

Ya that sounds like a good idea put down the hottest lure to hit bass fishing in years and try some other old lure the bass know even better. I know what you are saying man, Being versitile is Very improtant and being great at many lures is a great help. But if a lure is this hot you have got to ride that puppy, ride it hard! I fish what is working and the senko type lure is the hottest lure to come around cense the plastic worm. I have told lots of people new to bass fishing about this lure, It catchs bass on it's own (almost). I have got lots of bass on other lures and when the pattern slows (and it may not ever really slow) I have a full arsenal ready to go!
Crank bait 7lbs 4oz
grub 7bls 3oz
twin tail grub 7lbs 11oz
buzz bait 7 lbs 5oz
tube jig 9lbs 0oz
Rapala 5 lbs 7oz
senko 4lbs 14 oz small mouth bass and lots of 5lbs L.M.
Jig & craw worm 6lbs 8oz
crappie jig 5bls 12oz
Do not listen to me on what lure to use listen to the BASS, and right now they are screaming
S E N K O types lures (in 3 inch :smash:)
Fishermen that are new to bass fish need to get a few bass under there belt and the senko will speed up this process.
As for the bass going cold on this lure, It is the type of lure that this will not happen over night and NATURAL LOOKING AND ACTING will be hot for years. I fish for bass going across the grain, I do not do what every one at the lake is doing (I use the 3 inch senko and I do not use the lift presentation) I use weight at time when it makes sense. I would tell some one rather than going away from the Senko, instead practice you casting skills that will really help you catch more bass. You have to look at the senko and ask your self what make the senko so GOOD! Slow fall good wiggle action, no weight and it’s a VERY natural looking bait in the water. A big bass will not be hesitant with this kind of lure. I think we will start to see LOTS of new lures with no weight and good falling action and they will work very well too. Senko type lures are hear to stay they are not a flash in the pan. Spinner baits, jigs and crank baits are still hear and all get good bass at the right time! One other thing is that senko lures are fun to fish (when you get 50 to 100 bass a day!). I also fish a senko many different ways, I will give you one thing senko lures do not catch as big of bass as buzz baits (most of the time) and you cant beat a jig & pig in the spring. But senko type lures catch more fish out of the water than any other lure you have in your box. So I just say this one thing in closing: Make hay while the sun is shining!!!! If you are new to bass fishing the senko is a great lure to start with. Give any new lure the time it deserves and the senko deserve that time! Also If you have not tried the 3 inch senko you are really missing out on a HOT lure! Also try white early and brown & greens mid-day. Good luck (but with a senko you will not need it).

Everyone on this board needs to expand their horizons and try other finese baits.

That's why I've been trying the 2in senkos on 5lb line with a spinning reel (it's still a senko). Some people like to stick with what works for them. I like to try different methods while knowing things such as the senko 'already' works. I used to be a die hard baitcaster with 1/2+ ounce texas/carolina/wacky 5in senko etc, but lately I've been going light line with finesse soft baits. It's a lot of fun, especially on smallies. The 2in senkos, Berkley 2in Bulky Power Hawg are really fun to use, especially when you get the big one on that light line

Now back to the main subject, I usually shop at landbigfish.com when I cant find the senko color I want at the local shop. They have a large selection to choose from.
