I went scouting this weekend on the coast in my hunting area. There is a swamp nearby with a series of Beaver ponds.
I made my way in there with the float tube. What a blast.

Saw Otters, Beavers and all kinds of birds. Caught and released several small Cutts up to Ten inches. Lots of fun with my 3 wt. Wish I had taken my camera...

I am wondering how many beaver ponds like that exist on the coast ????/

They are hard to get to because of the thick brush all around them but worth the effort. And oh yes ! Called in a herd of Elk, one doe and a Coyote. There was a spike in that herd. Could have made a great Forty yard shot !

There are hundreds, maybe even thousands of them in the coast range. My parents live outside of Corvallis in the hills. They have two beaver ponds on their property, and the creek that feeds those are dammed pretty much all the way to the springs that feed it. All of them are full of little 4-8" cutts.

I've often thought of building a special rod just for fishing in those little creeks and ponds. Because it's so brushy, you can't cast, so a five or six foot rod would be fine. You don't need a reel except to store about 40' of line on (at most). I know that Sage makes 0 and 00 wt rods now. That might work just perfectly.

Some of those little cutts can really rock.
