There is only one place and that is Alaska's Nushagak River. But I will get to that in a minute, here are few shots from this years Springer season.
With an unusally wet spring we got to do some coastal river fishing from the driftboat. With the flop that the Columbia threw us this year, the wet spring redeemed the season with somthing we don't get to do that often.
We all rave about springers and the Columbia fish are great but a coastal spring chinnook is deffinitley the finest Salmon that swims.
Here are a few shots from some recent trips

Now fishing for these fish, don't expect to get a boat load everytime, you do have to put in your time. But we never had a skunked day and our best day was 7 hook ups. Not quite like fishing below bonneville but the bounty is well worth the effort.
Well I leave for Alaska's Nushagak River tomorrow. I have been getting alot of "have a good season" " be safe" "wish I was going" and "see you when you get backs." I am alway excited about getting back up there but there is alway some anxiety.
Leaving home for two months is never that easy especially with our 3 month old baby boy at home who seems to change daily. Then there is constant wondering how everything faired. Will all the engines start? ( They will their Yamaha. ) Will the generators fire up? Did anyone vandalize our property? Will the well system work. Hope the barge out of Seatle with all our provisions shows up on time. And of course all this stuff always gose on with out a hitch but its still a stessfull time until I am up there.
Then six of us working 15 hour days for 16 days and we will be ready for our first guest and again it will all be worth it. Because there is absolutely no place in the World that a person can catch this many Kings. Especially in a way so many of us like to do it. In a river, rod in hand free drifting bait, bouncing 4 ounces with a fist size glob of eggs, or the tip of G-Loomis thumping out rythem with a Kwikfish dancing on the end of it. It just doesn't get any better.
The season begins like this every year, after 25 boat loads all the stuff will be up river.

After all the work the fishermen arrive and awaking to this every morning is purely aswesome.

The only thing better than waking up to that is knowing this is what awaits each boat everyday, guaranteed. Along with realeasing anther 20 on a slow day or 60 on good day. Most days we average 50 chinnook a boat.

After a week of fishing all 4 chest freezers begin to look like this. Then we empty them out and start all over

Here is a money shot, just a portion of what we cure up each day. Guest have even been known to go home with a carton or two. :yay:
