You guys should do well. In the last two days, the water is finally dropping into the money zone.

Sorry guys but I'm SOL. It's not the work thing, but I almost forgot that tommorow night is my wife's She Woman Man [potty mouth] Book Club night. I've got to be around to tend to the younguns while she and her girlfriends drink wine and pretend to talk about a book that none of them read.
The weather was downright hot here today. I'll bet the bugs are moving with purpose in the Maupin area! You guys will hammer the trout. Stop in Smurfs shop (Deschutes Canyon Fly Shop across the bridge from town by the Oasis) and pick up some Norm Woods Specials. It's the best salmon fly pattern going even though it's not the most realistic.

OK, who's back? Let's hear it! I stopped at Warm Springs today and saw a few big bugs around. I'm sure that they were down lower as well. But were the fish keyed on them yet?

fish most certainly.....were not! :depressed:
As for me, let's just say it was a big juicy slice of humble pie! We fished hard, and Isaac managed a few fish. There were the usual fish holding on the gravel bars, and some tucked in tight to the banks below trees, but hooking them proved too tough. I spoke with many folks and all seemed to be struggling too. I did hear monday some fish had been feeding on the big bugs and a few guys did well, around 2-4 pm. That never materialized while we were there.
anyway, the river was fun to fish, and I enjoyed getting the chance to fish with CM. Great job out there Isaac, especially having never fished the D before. :applause:
I'd say this weekend or ealy next week will be better, more bugs will be on the water and fish should be keyed in better.
good fishing!

Whew..
I thought I was the only one who had rough luck out there. I pretty much used a salmon fly as an indicator and fished all sorts of droppers off the end... had a few tugs and one heart breaking refusal that I saw.. it hurts more when you see the fish look at your fly and than say... "naaa".
I fished for about 5 hours and came away with nothing but a sunburn, sbf 35 did not hold up to the mighty desert sun.
I did watch a guy around Nina catch some fish off his droppers, so at least I saw some action.
Nevertheless it was a good day just to go enjoy the sun and the river.

Were you up by the locked gate and above?
C, we did not float. Wish we had. Some of the DB's said they had cught a few fish. I'm into fishing next week.
Timing may be just right.

Hey brad, thanks alot for taking me yesterday...I had a great time, WHAT A BEAUTIFUL RIVER! now I know why it is world famous.
We were the 2nd car to arrive and Brad had a few fish spotted right off the bat...but no takers. We walked up stream a little ways and Brad gets a brute to hammer his salmonfly to no avail! Too bad.
We spotted a bunch of fish holding real tight to the bank feeding on something, not salmonflies.
I landed 2 trout, both on the dropper which by the way I got from someone from ifish during the last trout swap.
About 3pm I had a nice fish take my stimulator, but it turned out to be a whitefish...which fought pretty hard.
All in all it was a great day and GBS showed me the rope really well...I am hooked, thats for sure.
there is only one thing I will do different next time...SUNSCREEN. OUCH.
