I'd like to hear from some of you about how you clean your fly lines and what you use for fly line dressing.

Thanks,

me too! I have always just used a clean ,damp cloth w/ a bit of soap to pull my line through to clean it (dont know if this is really the right idea or not!!!). Would then rinse and dry it. As far as any dressing goes....have no idea what to use.

FEATHER-CRAFT FLYLINE CLEANER & DRESSING (formerly known as Lazer-Line-Speed
NOTICE: When Bob Clouser put on his fly tye & casting show here, he asked for something to clean his fly line with. After the casting show, he asked "WHAT THE HECK WAS THAT FLY LINE CLEANER?" I;VE NEVER USED ANYTHING AS SLICK! It was this stuff. Apply to the corner of a bandanna etc, and pull your fly line thru it, be it wet or dry! Cleans and resurfaces your flyline with each application. Lines shoot; thru the guides and float like new. For fresh and saltwater fly lines. $5.95

I bought mine from the fly shop...they are in redding.

you probably have one of their catalogs...and if you don't, you should get one.

It looks like Cabelas has them too - 19.99 and includes the cleaning solution.

there you go...It's real nice to have one of those especially if you have a bunch of different lines to clean...

Thanks all for the input. I have fly-fished for about 30 years now and the only thing I've used is a damp, soft cloth to wipe down my line. Now that I have invested much money into several types of lines, I wand to make sure that I care for them properly to get the longest life out of them.

I got one a lot like that, only it's plastic and cost about half as much. Been satisfied with it so far...

While we are on the topic, about how often do you all clean you fly line?

For me, it depends. I carry a cloth with me when I'm fishing. If I'm on a multi-day fishing trip, I might clean it as often as daily depending on the water and how much muck my line picks up. Or if my line doesn't seem to be floating as high as it should, I'll stop and clean at least the front 20-30 feet or so.
