I can't seem to find a good supply of Yamalube that is anywhere near me, does anyone have a suggestion for a good 4-stroke motor oil?
Yamaha itself says in the manual that any 4-stroke oil, 10W-30 or 10W-40 will do, but I figured maybe someone had some suggestions as to one brand over another.

The dealership we bought from stated just what you saw in the manual -- good quality oil, brand name not important. Actually, it kind of nice to not be tied to the brand name to protect the warranty.
You're in Kent....Auburn Sports & Marine is too far? Many GI Joes have Yamalube also.
Anyway, I just bought a new Yamaha too. I'm thinking of going to synthetic. The motors don't take much oil so...what the heck...it is only a couple bucks and if an impeller goes out or the cooling system gets plugged, the synthetic may save the motor from totally frying.

I have the same problem, what to feed the new Yami F-4 250..??? I am thinking Mobil One..My only concern is corossion protection..recent Trailer Boats mag test rated the Yami 4-stroke oil poorly on this parameter, so I have been running the Evinrude syn in my T-8...but the difference in cost between T-8 and 250 is house payment..for awhile....so I want no excuses..
Anybody running Mobil one???

Stay with Yamalube! Call around and find a dealer that sells it in bulk, it's a lot cheaper than by the gallon from a store. I buy mine in a 5gal jeep can. Last time I bought it I think I payed $14gal.

I'd use a quality synthetic (Mobil 1,Royal Purple,Redline,Amsoil) without hesitation. Most kicker motors have a pretty hard life. A quart of quality synthetic is only $5-6.

Go on the internet and locate a supplier that sells wholesale and have 10 gallon drum shipped to you. You'll save money and have plenty on hand.

This is a great question for the Boat Doc since the Merc 4 strokes have been mostly Yami powerheads. Did you try questioning there?

Any name brand synthetic will work fine. I've been using castrol syntec for 3 yrs now no problems

That's not a bad idea, I'll look around on the internet.
I called my North River dealer and they said they just use Napa 10W-30. So, if I took it into them for service, that's what I would be getting I guess.
I'm not really a synthetic convert yet, so I suppose I'll try to stick with Yamalube until I have the courage to try something different.

the times where synthetic shines the most is on harsh duty engines. Like kickers ,atv's engines that run hot and so on.Not all synthetics are better but top names are better than petro oils for harsh duty. I might be wrong but I thought yamalube was a blend
