I am looking at getting a hitch on my new rig and from what I can tell all that needs to be done is bolting and plugging in a wire harness. Everything is there to do this with, but is it just easier to have it installed or is it pretty easy to do myself with everything there? I have never done this before, but it doesn't look too hard. Any suggestions? The difference between having it installed and me doing it would be about $100.

It is pretty easy. I will be doing one myself. It should be nothing more then a couple of bolts and plugging in the wireing harness for the lights just like you said. I have done one before on another rig and there was nothing to it. I think all total I was into it about an hour and a half and that included the run to the store to buy it.

I have done the last two for my tow rigs. The first was a Jeep Grand Cherokee and the second a Suburban. While not terribly difficult there are a few things you want to make sure you have.
1. The right hitch for your rig.
2. The right size sockets and box wrenches (make sure you don't need a 'deep' socket or extension for getting into the frame if needed).
3. A good quality torque wrench (or borrow one).
The only potential snag you may hit is that sometimes the bumper needs to be adjusted, but that appears to be a Chevy thing.
It took me less than 20 minutes to install the one on my Jeep (easy access and straight forward mounting). Between adjusting the bumper and needing to buy a deep socket, it took just over an hour on the Suburban. But I saved $75 by doing it myself.
What kind of rig are you installing it on? You can also go to DrawTite or Hidden Hitche's web sites to look at installation guides.
Good luck.

Try it yourself first. If its too hard you can always take it to the shop later..
