Is it okay to put Mobil 1 in my 2003 Yamaha 25HP 4 stroke? The manual calls for SAE 10W-30 regual oil but I'd like to put in Mobil 1 for the extra protection.

Also, how often should the lower end oil be changed?

Trailer boats mag ran a test of oils a few issues back, not sure if they tested M-1, the test had some suprise results re corrosion protection of the various brands, Yami oil was not well thought of - as aresult I changed brands of oil in my 25 HP yami. I change lower unit 2x a year, def b4 winter layup to check for water in lower unit. Invest in the gallon w pump, it will make life easy.

M1 would be a great choice fro your Yamaha. As far as the lower unit goes,I change mine at least once a year and I usually shoot for twice.

I have only had my two Honda's for a couple of years. I honestly don't know specifics on Mobil 1 use in marine applications. But, if it comes close to the protection on engine wear that it does in my two cars.....I think it's worth it.

Until told otherwise, I will always use Mobil 1 in boat motors too...
