Curious about reliabiltily of older, mid-range two-stroke Suzuki outboard motors. What are some of the querks of the Suzuki two-stroke outboard? What needs to be done to them for maintenance? Any information by owners will be appreicated. Thank DK

I had a 30hp Suzuki on a 15SS Duroboat. It was an 87 bought new as a package deal in 88. The motor ran great for the 12 years I owned it. I guess it probably had 750-1000 hours on it when I sold it. Some weeks it fished most days from first light to 11am. Changed plugs at the beginning of the season and then again half way through as I used it to troll. The only quirk I found was it flooded easily first time starting, just had to be careful. Always changed the lower unit oil every season and flushed after all salt use. The only breakdown I had was some type of sensor about three years in. All in all it was a great little motor.

Klem,
In 1994 I bought a 17' Duckworth/Suzuki package - it was brand new when I bought it. The motor is a 1995 85 horse Suzuki 2 stroke. I keep wanting to replace it and get a 4 stroke but its just such of a good motor I think I will keep it another couple of years. It has never let me down, always starts right up, burns very little oil, uses even less gas and doesn't really have any quirk I can think of. All I have ever done is basic maintenance, flush yearly, plugs maybe 1x of 2x times a year depending on how much I use it. Its mainly run fresh water, but I do fish Buoy 10 about 5 or 6 times a year so it does see the salt, just flush it real good when I get home and all is well. Just want to say this again, it is probably the most efficient 2 stroke I have ever owned, my boat has a 40 gallon tank in it and I fill it maybe 2 times a year, I always worry about the gas getting old before I use it it burns so little, granted my boat isn't that heavy but its great now that gas is $2.50 a gallon to be able to run all day on 4 or 5 bucks worth of gas. Anyway, thats what I know, it seems to work for me.
Thanks

Had a 40HP manual start. Started on the 3 pull ever time.Never missed a beat. Bought it new in 1987. traded it on my Duckworth Yamie package last year. For my money they are great motors.
