I have an 77 glasply with a mercruiser 130 i/o . Had the shft cable replaced at a shop last summer, and since then I cant seem to keep the remote adjusted. I can either get forward or reverse but not both and usually cant get it out of gear once its in. I have the installation manual and have follwed the directions but that doesnt do it. I need Help!!!

You need to make sure both, the control and the lower unit are in sinc. Both need to be in reverse, nuetral or forward. Once you establish that the two are in sinc, fine adjustments can be made.

If you can shift it manually with full gear engagement then it may be an adjustment issue. If you don't get full engagement manually then there is wear in either the control, cables or gearcase or a combination of the above. So far as the difficulty coming out of gear the shift interrupt switch is either not hooked up or is not functioning.

Hey, Thanks you guys! Its an adjustment problem for sure. Today I got both forward and reverse, although in forward the throttle kicks in just before the gears do, so lots of grinding and clunking. And I know for sure that that the throttle cutout switch is not working. Will that affect things?? Is it a priority to get it working?????? Thanks Again... Jeff

Yes that is part of the problem I know for exp. And all that ginding ended up chiping a tooth off the gear and destroying the lower unit. Two words be carful

Hey thanks for the warning, I am starting to think I should get it to a shop and let them have a wack at it. Would Stevens Marine do it right ( so I wouldnt have to screw with it anymore ? ) I am in The Dalles so I need to make sure its worth the trip. The guys in Hood River already had thier chance, but couldnt do any better than I did and said I did not need the cutout. I dont want to ruin this outdrive, its fairly new compared to the hull.. Thanks I need some advice.....

I would hope they could take care of it. I found a trick for it last year online. I tried to find it for you but could not find it. I will keep looking for you.
