Has anyone been fishing on the Umpqua yet, or does anybody have a report from anyone who has. I will be visiting my parens Memorial Day weekend, and was thinking about giving it a try. Any info would be appreciated.
Thank you!
Are you looking for smallmouth or shad reports? Either way, both are biting now, and shad will be at their peak around Memorial Day.
Check out this site for more details. Larry Moore's Fishing Reports (http://www.fish-works.com/)

I had heard the Shad were being picked up, but I was looking for a Smallmouth report. Thank you for the website.

So what part of the umpqua are you looking at? Where do your parents live? As a kid, I used to live in Elkton. My dads parents still live in Drain.

My parenst live in Sutherlin, and that is where I grew up. If you are heading west from Sutherlin, instead of staying on the hwy and going to Elkton, you take a left about 1/4 mile and head down to the Umpqua Store. Take a right at the Umpqua Store (I guess living in Portland has erased my memory for street names), and head out about 7 to 8 miles. I have some private land that I access to fish an awesome area that is nothing but 3-8ft rock shelves of the main channel. You can fish this area all day by wading the bank, and in the summer it draws down enough to wear you can hit all of the deep pocket. This place is loaded, and I have been fishing it for 15 years and have only seen a handful of people. Every now and then you will see a drift boat. I guess everyone spend there time around Elkton, but there are some big smallies in this area, and summer = huge numbers.

Smallies are biting well around Elkton. Guide reports 60-70 fish day on Monday. Water temp is rising and water level dropping. By Memorial Day it should be good through the entire system. I live in Sutherlin and will start targeting these fish probably this weekend to see what the action is like a little closer to home. Will try to keep you informed.

Thanks for the heads up, I grew up in Sutherlin, what area do you live in. Do you ever fish Cooper Creek? I fished that lake alot and have caught a lot of nice bass out of there. If you fish it great, but if you have not and ever wants some info let me know. Shoot me a pm and we can talk.

I am trying to cook up a trip for Memorial Day weekend, but nothing definite. I will be visiting my parents then, and I am hoping to get out either on the Umpqua or Cooper Creek. We should hook up a little later in the summer and do a float that I have been thinking about. We could fish the river and I could show you my favorite lake too.
