View Full Version : Compression on Outboard
What should the range of compression be for a 140 suzuki two-stroke? It is a mid 80's model, 4 cylinder. Thanks for the input. Klem

I once had a mechanic tell me all your cylinders should be within 10-15 psi per cylinder. Not sure what your actual cylinder compression should be. Ya might be able to find it on the internet, tho..

the mechanics i have talked to say that because compression guages vary so much from guage to guage that they offer the 10% between cylinders as an alternative to a number that may not mean anything...

I recall reading somewhere, that the actual number is not that important, rather the difference between the cylinders is what to look at. Greater then 10% means problems.

I am a certified Suzuki, Yamaha, and Honda mechanic. 10% difference is the max between the four cylinders. Usually the compression will be between 90 and 130psi. This can vary between motors, and both are acceptable. The main thing to be concerned about is consistency between all of the cylinders.
