....so after sticker shock of looking at a new boat..and looking at $1K to replace oil pump on 200 HP Ficht..it is time to find a partner for the T-8 to Port. Anyone have experience w the 250 Yami? I will be pushing a 24' Almar Sounder..loaded for bear..er..make that barndoors it weighs about 6000 #. The 200 does fine but while I am at it.....what I have heard so far is that the 225 is much better than 200 and the 250 is much quieter than the 225. My Ficht has the front intake vents on the cowl (they changed this on the next years model) and it is loud from 3500-4200 rpm..The Ficht is pretty good on fuel tho, at 4K rpm and about 25 mph it burns 7 gph.

Tomictime,
My uncle just repowered his 25ft Parker with a 2005 Yami 250, His previous engine was a 97 Yami 250 Saltwater Series II, My uncle is really pleased with his new engine, he says the GPH rating is nearly double better than the 97 250 SW Series, he also mentioned that he is using almost twice as less oil too. Also he mentioned that he is able to get about 8-10mph higher top speed.
Sounds like a great engine overall. If you have a couple of extra BOAT bucks, you oughta check out the 300hp Yami Badboy.. :smash:

I have a 250 Saltwater, 2001 2 stroke.
I am less than pleased with it. I would not buy it again, if I had to do it over again.

Thanks  Sounds like the Parker has a HPDI on it. I am looking at the 4-strokes. I hear the HPDI have great power to weight but I want out of the oil business..my Ficht is leaking oil..I thought about a OX-66 250 HP, dealer has a new old stock for $8K ish...but decided against it.
again thx

I have a 4 stroke 225 Yamaha. Came from a 2 stroke V-Max Yamaha. Loved the 2 stroke for the pop out of the hole, but it was thirsty for gas and oil.
The new 4 stroke is really nice. Sips fuel compared to it's 2 stroke cousin and is much quieter. I wouldn't go back now. I have an tiller steer open sled and run both a pump and a bay kit/prop on it.
I'd buy it again.

Thanks everybody  I appreciate the help.
I went with the Yami F-4 250....traded the Ficht in, I do not feel good about the lumps I took..but I can sleep at nite knowing that when the dealer resells it they will somewhat stand behind it.

A fishing buddy of mine ordered the 225 4 stroke Yamaha on his new NR Seahawk, which was scheduled for mid-May delivery. They told him the 225 is back ordered, so suggested the 250 to keep the boat on schedule. So they might be hard to find. He is now going with the 250, too. :bigshock:

I think he will like the power, I know I am looking fwd to it. I may have seen his boat in the rigging shop. He is really going to like it. Mine is 10 years old, fished hard and still warms my heart.
