bought a new boat 17 foot talon. guy at marina told me that if the my kicker motor was a long shaft i would not need a motor plate. so i go to put old 15 hrs johnson off old fiberglass boat on and it loooks like it will work but i cant get full swing of the tiller on kicker. i dont want acciedently mark up the cowling on my new 60 would a motor plate work better. bear with me am really new at this. next question can i put the kicker on the same side as the transducer for my fish finder with out causing interfence with it.

Sorry, having trouble picturing the problem. Are you saying that you can't get a full swing of the kicker without it hitting the cowling of your main outboard? Sorry I'm not more help.

Can't really be of help with the kicker swing prob but, the transducer on my 17.5' Smoker Stealth is between the kicker and the big motor, the only times there's a problem is when the kicker goes in reverse, and the prop washes a bunch of water and air over the transducer. Now, maybe if your boat is narrower at the back that mine you might have a prob.
