:yay:May 5th, The local fishermen are now catching Springers.

Get ready - Get Set- GO!

May 1st, Got my first good word that the Springers are coming in. Its only going to get better.

As of April 30, still no Springers yet to speak of.

Every year come late April we start to think Springers on Tillamook Bay and local rivers.
What comes to mind is the areas that the fish come in at and where they go. Lets start with the JAWS area of Tillamook Bay. They come over the bar when the storm waves settle down. They don't like it too ruff. So when they come in they travel up the bay in search of food or what ever happens to strike their fancy. On each tide change they come in and go back out.
They are eventually heading towards the rivers to spawn when the BIG boys get here in the fall.
At this time of year when storms move in and stir the waters they hold up and when it settles down they'll come roaring in. Now here on the coast, Tillamook area they don't come in huge numbers like the fall run does. Its like a pilot run. Springers aren't as big as the fall run goes, but are in my opinion, much better eating.
Most fishermen use spinners in the upper bay area. Size 7 Willow Leaf. Most used colors are red and white, blue tip, red and green, and chartruse. But if you have GOLD you will probably do very well. Size 14 and 15 quick fish at Mamaloose Park area seems to have been a good way to go. Troll them. Don't forget to wrap them with a sardine for scent.
Pick an incoming tide for best results. And follow Jennie, she knows where to find fish and when she does you can hear her clear across the pond. he he
The Wilson gets a small run of Springers and I would suggest to stay down low in tide water area. Use either spinners or sand shrimp. And don't forget Marie's Shrimp Scents. The Trask gets the biggest run of Springers and the Wilson gets the Fall Run.
So for Springers think Trask and for Fall chinook think Wilson.
Thats my 2 cents worth.
