During Maundy Thursday service we sang one of my favorite worship songs – “The Heart of Worship.” This morning I was wondering what your favorite songs might be could be a contemporary song or a traditional hymn. Also what is it about your favorite that makes it meaningful to you? This is always of most importance the individual meaning not so much the lyric itself. Any takers?
“The Heart of Worship” for me is about stripping everything away to slow down and DO what God really wants of me and that is just to “Remain in Me” (Jn 15:4).
“When the music fades
And all is stripped away
And I simply come…
I'm coming back to the heart of worship
And it's all about You
All about You, Jesus
I'm sorry Lord for the thing I've made it
When it's all about You
It's all about You Jesus”
Remaining is not what I do well; I like to make it about doing something. After all remaining is a passive inactive word and approach not an active one. The song is not about salvation but how believers are to be worshipers throughout their day. I confess I can be so busy in a day most of the time I don’t slow down to reflex on God. I have my lists of things I need to get done much of it good in itself but focus is easily lost.
In our walk we can start thinking, “I must be at least in the top 50% or even 10% of faithful mature believers.” We are the really active ones in things of service or positions like a pastor, elder, worship leader, usher, altar guild, greeter… We give regularly to the church. We do and make it about so many different things – yes, all valuable and good in themselves, but for me most of the time I just need to strip everything away and simply come and remain. Remaining means you’re not really doing anything and that’s not easy for me, because well I can feel better about myself when I’m active; I feel more secure. But freedom and rest comes in remaining.
During this busy time of Easter, my prayer for myself and for my brothers and sisters here is to just take the time to slow down, lay aside for a moment your responsibilities at home, work, or at church on Sunday and to just remain. God makes it so simply He just wants us to sit with Him and remain in His love. And that’s the best place to be.

Oh, man....being a worship leader, there are so many. I really like just about anything that Keith Green wrote. Here are some others that I really enjoy playing and that have inspired me:
Heart of Worship
Give Us Clean Hands
More Love More Power (I arranged a 60s-ish version of this. If I get a chance, I'll upload a recording we did)
There is No Other Name
Trading My Sorrows
Jesus, Lover of My Soul
This is only a handful, but are the ones off the top of my head that I would play every Sunday if I could.

my favorite would have to be "Behold He Comes".the worship team at my school sings this on chapel days and everyone loves it and really gets into it
These are the days of Elijah
Declaring the word of the Lord
And these are the days of his servant Moses
Righteousness being restored
And though these are days of great trials
Of famine and darkness and sword
Still we are the voice in the desert
Crying, prepare ye the way of the Lord
Chorus:
Behold he comes
Riding on the clouds
Shining like the sun
At the trumpet's call
So lift your voice
It's the year of Jubilee
For out of Zion's Hill salvation comes

Wow there is so many great ones out there it is to hard but for me it has to be Michael W. Smith Awsome God
When He rolls up His sleeves
He ain't just putting on the ritz
There's thunder in His footsteps
And lightning in His fists
The Lord wasn't joking
When He kicked 'em out of Eden
It wasn't for no reason
That He shed His blood
His return is very close
And so you better be believing that
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
And when the sky was starless
In the void of the night
(God is an awesome God)
He spoke into the darkness
And created the light
(God is an awesome God)
Judgement and wrath He poured out on Sodom
Mercy and grace He gave us at the cross
I hope that we have not
Too quickly forgotten that
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God (Our God is an awesome God)
He reigns from heaven above
With wisdom, power, and love
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God (Our God is an awesome God)
He reigns from heaven above (He reigns)
With wisdom, power, and love (With wisdom and power)
God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
Our God is an awesome God
This is such a great song. rp

Wow...that's a toughy! There are so many good songs that touch me and have deep meaning to my life! There's an older hymn that has been turned into a praise and worship song at our church, and I think it's one of my favorites right now. The old song "Holy Holy Holy" by Reginald Heber pretty much sums it up for me...especially the 3rd verse! Just reading the words sends chills down my spine!
Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee;
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore Thee,
Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea.
Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee,
Which wert, and art, and evermore shalt be.
Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide Thee,
Though the eye of sinful man Thy glory may not see,
Only Thou art holy, there is none beside Thee,
Perfect in power, in love, and purity.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy Name in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and Mighty!
God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!
I also like "Here I am to Worship" by Tim Hughes.
Light of the world
You stepped down into darkness
Opened my eyes, Let me see
Beauty that made this heart adore you
Hope of a life spent with you
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that your my god
Youre altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me
King of all days
So highly exalted
Glorious in heaven above
Humbly you came to the earth you created
All for loves sake became poor
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that your my god
Youre altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me
I'll never know how much it cost
To see my sin upon that cross
Here I am to worship
Here I am to bow down
Here I am to say that your my god
Youre altogether lovely
Altogether worthy
Altogether wonderful to me

Another oldie but goodie:
Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed.
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
and mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we've been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to sing God's praise
Than when we've first begun.

I have quite a few favorite hymns that we sang in church but I remember an Easter from my youth when this song was the "special music"...20+ years later and it still thrills my heart.
He's Alive!
(Don Francisco)
The gates and doors were barred
And all the windows fastened down
I spent the night in sleeplessness
And rose at every sound
Half in hopeless sorrow
And half in fear the day
Would find the soldiers breakin' through
To drag us all away
And just before the sunrise
I heard something at the wall
The gate began to rattle
And a voice began to call
I hurried to the window
Looked down into the street
Expecting swords and torches
And the sound of soldier's feet
But there was no one there but Mary
So I went down to let her in
John stood there beside me
As she told me where she'd been
She said they've moved Him in the night
And none of us knows where
The stones been rolled away
And now his body isn't there
So we both ran toward the garden
Then John ran on ahead
We found the stone and empty tomb
Just the way that Mary said
But the winding sheet they wrapped him in
Was just an empty shell
And how or where they'd taken Him
Was more than I could tell
Oh something strange had happened there
Just what I did not know
John believed a miracle
But I just turned to go
Circumstance and speculation
Couldn't lift me very high
'Cause I'd seen them crucify Him
Then I saw Him die
Back inside the house again
The guilt and anguish came
Everything I'd promised Him
Just added to my shame
When at last it came to choices
I denied I knew His name
And even if He was alive
It wouldn't be the same
But suddenly the air was filled
With a strange and sweet perfume
Light that came from everywhere
Drove shadows from the room
And Jesus stood before me
With His arms held open wide
And I fell down on my knees
And I just clung to Him and cried
Then He raised me to my feet
And as I looked into his eyes
The love was shining out from Him
Like sunlight from the skies
Guilt in my confusion
Disappeared in sweet release
And every fear I'd ever had
Just melted into peace
He's alive yes He's alive
Yes He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
Has alive yes Has alive
Oh He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heavens gates are open wide
He's alive He's alive
Hallelujah He's alive
He's alive and I'm forgiven
Heaven's gates are open wide
He's alive He's alive He's alive
Sweet Jesus
This is a good thread BUT , when you say favorite song or songs that is when it gets difficult.
For worship I love the oldies and do not really care for most of the new songs because they don’t seem to have any depth. For listening (and also worship) the older Southern Gospel songs are by far better than the new ones .

I Want To Be More Like Jesus
by
Keith Green
As each day passes by,
I feel my love run dry.
I get so weary, worn,
And tossed around in the storm.
Well I'm blind to others needs,
And I'm tired of planting seeds.
I seem to have a wealth,
Of so many thoughts about myself.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I want to, I need to, be more like Jesus.
I want to, I need to, be more like Him.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our Father's will was done,
By giving us His Son,
Who paid the highest cost,
To point us to the cross.
And when I think of Him,
Taking on the whole world's sin,
I take one look at me,
Compared to what I'm called to be.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I want to, I need to, be more like Jesus.
I want to, I need to, be more like Him.
Remember, there's no greater love,
Then to lay down your life for a friend.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The end of all my prayers,
Is to care like my Lord cares.
My one and only goal,
His image in my soul.
Yes my weakness is revealed,
but by His stripes I'm healed.
He's faithful and He's true,
To complete the work he begins in you.
CHORUS
The Road to Zion
by
Petra
There is a way that leads to life, the few that find it never die
Past mountain peaks graced white with snow, the way grows brighter as it goes
Chorus:
There is A road inside of you, inside of me there is one too.
No stumbling pilgrim in the Dark, the road to Zion's in your heart,
the road to Zion's in your heart
The river runs beside the road, it's waters living as they flow,
in liquid voice the water calls, on thirsty knees a pilgrim falls
(CHORUS)
Sometimes a shadow dark & cold lays like a mist across the road,
but Be encouraged by the sight, where there's a shadow there's a light
(CHORUS)
Sometimes it's good to look back down , we've come so far we've gained
such ground but joy is not in where we've been, Joy is Who's waiting at the end
(CHORUS)
No stumbling pilgrim in the Dark, the road to Zion's in your heart
the road to Zion's in your heart ,the road to Zion's in your heart

Yeah he has a great voice! I liked his vocals on "Praise Ye the Lord" from their first album.
"The Coloring Song" and "More Power to Ya" are other favorites
I absolutely love the old hymns.
All Hail the Power of Jesus Name.
Wonderful Grace of Jesus.
When the Roll is Called Up Yonder I'll Be There.
And Can it Be.
And many more......
Some of the newer Worship songs out there are just too Hellywoodized. Church worship music needs to sound just like that, church worship music, not like Hollywood.

How about this one?
Shout to the Lord
My Jesus, my Savior
Lord there is none like you
All of my days, I want to praise
The wonders of your mighty love
My comfort, my Shelter
Tower of refuge and stength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship you
Shout to the Lord, all the earth
Let us sing.
Power and majesty, praise to the king.
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of your name
I sing for joy at the work of your hands
Forever I'll love you, forever I'll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in you
Hey Kerry,
That is a cool web site. I got babtized in them same waters in the picture. It was a Corona del mar. It was about 1978 for me though. I still even have my "Rejoice in Him" little song book.
I had seen Daryll Mansfield a couple of times and had one of Larry norman's Album. Always wanted so see randy stonehill but the timing was never there.

Been a fan of Larry Norman and his music since the '70's. He lives right here in Salem though his health has been suffering for a few years. Saw his last concert at Beaverton Nazerene in '03 and attended the dinner with him. Very moving when he auctioned his accoustic off. He was a pilgrim in the early Christian rock era. Favorite album of his is "So Long Ago in the Garden" followed by his "Bablylon" album (the euro version)
