Hi all,
I have a weekend fishing trip coming up the last weekend of March in Central Oregon (at a private lake) and was wondering where else I could explore for trout? Other than the Deschutes, is there anything else open that time of year? I really appreciate any ideas.
Thanks!

You could try the Metolius. Good year round!

The Crooked is always fun. There is a post about the Crooked just a few down from this one.

I second the suggestion for the Metolius.
I know a fellow fly fisherman who is catching huge Bull Trout in the Metolius now.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Crooked was my other choice. I suppose there are not any smaller creeks open for trout that time of year?
Has anyone ever fished on the Tribal water over around Ka Nee TA? I assume you need to get a special permit, but does anyone know if you can fish it that time of year? If so, who would I contact???
Thanks again, can't wait to get on the water!

If you don't mind driving a little further south, you might try Duncan Res. I've fished it numerous times in late March and early April with good results. A float tube is nice, but not manditory.

Don't overlook the Middle Deschutes between Tumalo and Lake Billy Chinook.
The water will be low, wading easy and fish concentrated. It'll have much better dry fly action than the Metolius, if that's what you want (but, unfortunately no opportunity for big 'bulls)

The canals aren't scheduled to be turned on until April 4th.
