I am about to purchase a floscan fuel flow meter for my kodiak marine 350. Before I get started messing with the fuel system I wanted to make sure there are not any gotcha's. Any inputs from someone who has installed a fuel flow meter would be great. I am anxious to get started, but don't want to screw up my boat. Thanks.

If you have a fuel injected Kodiak, make sure you get the correct model of FLoscan. It needs to have two sensors so it can cover the return flow as well. I looked at these pretty hard last year and will probably install one myself later this spring. Good luck.

The 5000 series require a 3-1/16" hole and the 7000 and 9000 series require a 3-3/8" hole in your helm. Don't forget to order the SPST switch(s) that are required. Blue Seas has three switches that work, #8200 (push button off-on),#8204 toggle off-on, or the #8282 contura switch with embedded LEDs.
Sometimes the lighted switch is not recommended with the FloScan. Also, look to see if you have a minimum of 12" spacing between your FloScan helm station and your compass.
What series are you getting?

I am getting the FloScan 5800 series for the EFI with return line to the tank. It is actually two sensors, but one display. My big concern is not messing up the fuel system by dropping pressure or leaks. I don't know that I can have 12" separation from the compass with the dash and my compass location. I will have to see. Any suggestions on the best way to cut a 3 1/16" hole that looks professional. I thought about a hole saw, but I am not sure that will do so well on aluminum- have to mount to the side of the main instruments due to size of the guage. Any cutting hints would be great.

A holesaw works great on aluminum, with the following caution. Predrill your center hole with the same size bit as the pilot bit. If you don't do this, when the pilot bit breaks through, the holesaw will grab and you will break the pilot bit every time! Good luck with your project, it is on my list to do as well.

Another tip when using a hole saw. We place tape over the area where the hole saw goes then use a kids pencil compass to lay out the hole on the tape. Right on info on predrilling the centerhole. Use a hole saw as mentioned above and just go slow. We use WD-40 and or BoeShield on the hole saw. It helps but adds to cleanup.
