I'm new to the whole motor scene, so i've got a few questions. How often do they recommend you change the oil in your outboard kicker? How about the plugs? The oil in the lower unit??
Am I correct in assuming that i'd probably get conflicting answers from different manufacturers on these questions, because all their specs are different?

Oil's cheap!...At least compared to top ends and lower ends.
I change the oil once a year in my top end and lower ends. I also buy the spendy(er) Quick Silver lubes as recomended by Merc.
I put 30-60hrs. on my big motor per year, and maybe 30hrs. on my 9.9 4-stroke kicker.
Plugs...Once a year, unless the big 2-stroke starts to miss or sneeze a bit at idle.

Maybe I should have specified that my 8 HP kicker is on my DB, so it's also my main motor! I would assume that this would change things up a bit as far as how often the oil should be changed??

I'm pretty keen on following the manufacturer's directions. Most often interval I see is 100 hours. Since you're unlikely to have an hour meter on your kicker, I'd stick with at least once a year. Change your lower unit lube at the same time.
