Well as you know this years steelhead season was hammered with unusually dry conditions. This constituted for extemely low condiitons for fishing. As low as I have ever seen, at least over an extended period of time. In February I fished 19 days, lost 6 days to the sportsmen show. In the days fished we landed 107 fish for about a 5.5 fish average per day. This is about 3 fish a day less than last year but still not to bad for the conditions.

Here are som photos from February.

I heard lots of talk about the lack of fish this year and complaints about low water, the thing you have to remind yourself is that these fish are still going to come low water or high water. Are they more difficult to catch? Absolutley, on the other hand with low water you have an advantage that they will not be scattered every where. Where fish are will be difinitely more defined which can give you an advantage.

But you need to be in stealth mode at all times. From your gear to how you handle your boat, I see so many times boats come clattering down a riffle shoot out over the hole than pull back up and fish it. Most of the time that will never work. Try to be as cautious as you can when you approach an area you want to fish. It will improve your catch and those coming down behind you.
