This ever happen to you ?

Last night I got to the pond. Strung up my 4 wt. and made my first cast using a Seal Bugger. I cast about Sixty feet.
Perfect. Starting stripping line and Wham. Fish on. A huge fish. It took off and in a single run I was down into my backing. The fish made a huge swirl and oops, the hook poped out. WHY ! how could this happen ?

My next cast I couldn't get the line off my rod.

Look stupid, You wrapped you line around your pole.

How often do you miss a guide or get your line twisted ?

Makes a guy feel like an amature, Do you know what I mean.

Luckily there was no one else around to watch..

I did land another big fish right after that.

I've had that experience many a times. Where the heck are you fishing where you can get two big fish in back to back casts? That could make any amutuer look like a pro!

More times than I care to admit. I even remind myself as I'm stringing up "don't miss an eye, don't miss an eye" - get out to the river and --- missed an eye.

Out near Beaver Creek. Little Tree and Big Tree.

( OFC ) Come with me some night, we'll have a blast.

I fish them all year round and right now fishing is the best I have ever seen.

I haven't had that specific problem, but when I was first learning to cast, I had some weird issue that caused the line to wrap around the outside of the reel.

I never caught a fish where this was a problem, but it could have been awful.

Tell me when Abalone and I'll be there. How far is it from SE Portland?

It seems like everytime out something similar to that happens to me.

It happens.

I make far more good casts than bad so I don't let it bother me. And one of the reasons I love flyfishing so much is that it is a constant learning process.

I totally agree. To me it's not the catching it's the hooking. Sure I would like to have seen that fish up close to see exactly how big it was and for sure that it was a trout. (Could have been a bass) But I feel the satisfaction of fooling it.

And I think that the learning part is what appeals to me to most too. There is something magical about fly fishing isn't there. It so real....

I have an open invitation to any of you that would like to go with me.

I was supposed to meet with CM last night but he had to cancel at the last minute because of Business. I felt bad for him.

I joined OFC a little over a year ago. And like many of you I was a little skeptical about joining a fishing club.

I mean what would my family think ? A FISHING CLUB ?

Sissy fish in a little pond.

But I am very glad I did and constantly wonder why more people don't.

Come with me some night and enjoy a private pond. I promise I will not mention joining the club. But I do believe if you see it for yourself you will soon realize what a prize it really is..

The dues are less then $30.00 per month. Cable TV cost more then that. I trout fish as many times as three times per week. I rarely see another member but when I do they are very nice and often times they share a secret with me that brings my catching skills up a notch or three.

Some of the ponds are located on private property inside a farm sorrounded by trees and lot of wildlife.

That waters are managed by the best.

So what's my motive ?

I just want to share this with you. Most of the people here on IFISH flyfishers are serious dedicated fly fisherman and I think if you knew what you were missing you'd be members. Why wait till the weekend when you can fish every single night. I work in Gresham and I can be fishing in less then an hour from where I work. It's 33 miles to Highland lakes Wildnerness area ( As I like to call it.

PM me if you want to go but please try to be ready.

I am alwasy anxious to get there but don't mind meeting up.
We can meet someplace and head right over there. There is only so much daylight and the fish are biting.

We'll be laughing.

I have ! But not this year.

That's a long drive for me but those ponds are in a nice setting. I have seen some huge Bass in the lower pond.

Bruce is negotiating for some property near Wamic with some White River access.

Wouldn't that be cool ?

Absolutely Not !

I was just trying to take some of the pressure off of myself for being such a cluts. I figure if some of you admit to doing the same thing I would not have to feel so stupid.

Still it was a rush feeling that thing take off like that.

I'll get another crack at that fish.....no problem....

CM. Sorry you couldn't make it.....fishing actually was pretty slow...

I know the feeling of doing something like that. I headed down to the E.f. of the Lewis with a fishing buddy, we took the spey rods. I was so excited to get up to the first drift. I attached my reel, strung my rod and off we went. It was a race to the firt drift and I went to strip line and cast. I could see the seam I wanted to fish, I was going to hit the spot and bring in the first fish. I then realized I had put my reel on backwards and wouldn't reel corectly. I thought no problem, I will just try to use it left handed. I didn't want to look like a dumb $@& infront of my fishing buddy but I just couldn't get the hang of it so I had to wade back to the bank and restring the whole thing over again. What a dork.
