View Full Version : Painting older Sled
I have 1985 18 ft. sled that is in great shape, but the paint looks its age. I'm looking for paint shop recommendations and any other advice from those with experience.
Thanks.

I have been in Hanson Auto Body on several occasions when they were painting boats. They do a nice job.
They are located in the area of SE Johnson Creek Blvd and 72nd.
Motion Marine just recently used Armor Plate on an Alumaweld boat they refurbished. This might be a better way to go?

I also have a 1985 sled, it looks brand new!! The fella that I bought it from had the sides covered with a giant 3M sticker called "armor (something)". I think that he said it was pretty reasonable, less than $1000.00. PM me and I will give his information.

I wouldnt paint an old boat, I would pollish it up and aply either sharkhide, 3m protective film or something to that matter, This is what i plan on doing to my sled that looks like someone splattred paint thinner all over the sides.
The armor coat bedliner idea will add alot of weight to your boat, i looked into it, and i think it was in the neighborhood of 150-300 lbs for a full spray job. Not exactly good when runnin the skinny stuff.

Bloodntheboat if you were refering to my post about the "armor(something)" It was a 3m sticker, not sprayed on armorcoat. Sorry if I wasn't clear about that. But you are right about the spray on bedliner stuff, heavy and spendy.

Its cool, i wasnt sure what you were refering to.
I considered stipping the old paint and polishing, but my boat would look best with some color. Perhaps I could have GBS make some decals. I'm also interested in the 3M sticker. Who applies them, what do they cost and how durable? If I go with paint, is there a particular product that is best for boats?
Thanks,
I would "Armor Plate" it instead of painting or repainting. That is the 3M covering I believe is being referred to. The person who handles and installs this product for many dealers and boaters is my next door neighbor. He does alot of really cool graphics as well as just single and multi colored coverings. PM me if interested on how to get ahold of him.
Mine will be getting done this summer.
