View Full Version : Battery Relocation ????

I have a 16' Smokercraft and when I sit in the stern to troll there is a large amount of weight back there (Motors/gas/battery/me) making the boat stern heavy and difficult to control in a breeze. The only two items that can be moved are the gas and the battery.

My questions for those more knowledgeable are: Since the bow of the boat takes more pounding when in rough or choppy water, is there any physical effect on the battery if it is located in the bow rather than the stern? Secondly, are there any problem with extending the + and - leads to the main motor by about 12'?

Thanks,

John

As long as the battery is properly secured it shouldn't be problem. If you have concerns you could go with a gel cell of the proper capacity. When lengthening the cables you need to increase the diameter. Would recommend 1 gauge.
