I'm trying this on the flyfishing board because i'm sure a fellow fly has some input. i need to replace the factory break-down oars on a buck's bag. i just don't like the "chincy" feel. anyone out there have any suggestions on a 7' oar.(they don't have to be break-down) :help:

I have been very happy with the Carlisle oars that came with my Outcast Pac800. If I were going to consider replacing them, I would most certainly talk with the people downstairs at Andy & Bax. They have a great selection of oars for inflatables.

Camel,
I had a pair of wood oars in my hand to buy today and Andy&Bax popped in my head and i put the oars down. Good call, thanks for the word!

It sounds like you may have already picked something up.

I'm a pretty frugal guy, so replacing the oars that came with my boat wasn't something I wanted to do, but I thought they left a bit to be desired as well. What I did to improve them was to pick up two 40' sections of 1/4' black marine rope and a pair of "oar rights," then I cut off the wimpy sleeves and rubber stops and re-wrapped 'em.

I know it doesn't sound like much but it made a big difference and didn't cost much.

There's some good advice here. Here's mine, moving water, get the best. I've seen the BB's aluminums get folded in fairly tame water. I have the Southfork and got 7ft. cataracts. They'll put you back about $160. The good brass oarlocks will be around $17 and you'll probably have to get some hard plastic tubing and shim them up a bit(about 5/8", I think) so they rise a little higher in the bracket.
I also have the straps and keepers rings for them since I run whitewater and have popped my oar a few times. You'll wear out your boat and your tired old bod' before you wear out the cataracts.
If you are in PDX, PM me and I'll drop you a URL for a good local source who will treat you right.
