as far as i knew the record was still under 12lbs. then a couple weeks ago i was look in a field and stream. it said the oregon record was 18 and change caught in 2002. is there info wrong? and if not why didnt it make the magazines and take so long for me to hear about it. i know i live in brownsville, but we arent that isolated from the rest of the world

Maybe a typo? 18 and change would be huge from the NW- some southern states dont have records that big.

I am a member of the Oregon Bass & Panfish Club and we are do the official verifying for the state warmwater fish records. To clear things up, the record that they referred to was probably for the hybrid white bass, which is 18.52 lb. and was caught in 2002. The state record largemouth is 12 lb. 1.6 oz. and was also caught in 2002. The state record smallmouth is 7 lb. 14 oz. and was caught in 2000 on a flyrod at Henry Hagg Lake. For all the state records for warmwater fish you can visit our website at http://obpc0.tripod.com/OBPC/ and click on "Fish Records" in the left hand column. If you would like to see all the warmwater state records, including past ones, click on "Historical Fish Records".

I also read that F&S article saying the state record was 18 pounds. Thats an awesome fish, even it if does seem almost too big.
Ballenger Pond is where it was caught, just across town in Springfield. I used to fish that when I was a kid

F&S must have gotten it really screwed up. The Largemouth record fish was caught at Ballenger Pond, but the 18+ lb. Hybrid White was caught at Ada Reservoir.

I remember reading about that Ballenger Pond fish back when it was caught. I'm almost certain it was 12 and some change. Freakin big fish for the NW.
I read the article yesterday. It was a typo. The record is 12lbs 1.6 oz.
