This last August my friends brother came up from California and wanted me to take him bass fishing. He is a hardcore bass guy. We floated the Willamett by Albany. We got a few smaller largemouth at first. Then we found the Smallmouth. We did really well using Gitzits.

After that day I kept returning to the river and did ok through September. In September I started using crankbaits when they stopped taking the Gitzits.

Anyways....... I want to start fishing those smallies soon. But im pretty much clueless about them. Im looking for some tips and info on fishing them starting this spring.

If someone wants to hookup with me and show me something I would be glad to take them on float in my drift boat.

Thanks in advance

Your on willierower. Your Willie or mine doesn't make a differance. I would like to fish that section of the river. I have enough tackle for the both of us and someone else if they come too. Used to touney fish and had about 6 of everything. Lets hookup.

i dont fish up that high on the river but i would think the same things would work. split shotting some kind of plastic is an easy bet. i like a 4 inch zoom worm in green pumpkin, but everyone has a fave. fish it slow and crawl the bottom. i also like small "crappie" size spinnerbaits w/ no skirst and grub trailers. also a silver shad rap is a good way to go. the water isn't all that fast so just don't fish too fast.

Would probably fish some of those sloughs/creeks in that area that go off the river. I remember one slough just up from Albany on the west side above the boat ramp that was good for me a number of years ago. Believe there was one just up and to the east to that held fish. They could be staging right at the mouths of these.

Thanks guys,

Rauly, We can you my Willie I have the 24 Volt MinnKota on it. Im thinking its going great for that.

Wannabe, There are 2 sloughs, 1 Above Albany and 1 below. One holds some smallish Largemouth. I know the other has fish but Ive only been in there once.

We didnt start hitting smallies until we got off the mouth of the Calipooia (sp) river.
