Should I be using Poly or Nylon rope for my drift boat rowers seat? I'll be using 1/4" as suggested by grantspastor last year but I'm stuck on the poly/nylon choice. :help:

Forget that rope seat. Set your seat up for nylon webbing strap and your butt will appreciate your efforts. Look at a Willie DB and you'll see how its wrapped. Just my 2cents worth.

Thanks for replying driftR but I'm converting the rowers seat back to the orignal it's 1968 set up, rope. Besides needing to figure out the hardware I'll need to purchase and rig, the rope material is my final hang up-no pun intended.

Cully,
I'd stay away from nylon rope for a seat. The frays on that stuff can get pretty abrasive as it wears out. It'll wear out the seat of you waders. If you ever wear shorts while fishing it'll be very itchy.
I redid my seat with poly rope that looks kind of like a rock climbing rope. I got it at one of the big building/remodeling stores. The weave on the exterior is really tight so it's very comfortable to sit on and it's held up really well.

Thoughts from an old Boatswain’s Mate, I would stay away from the poly line. It is extremely susceptible to degradation and damage from UV. Poly line will quickly discolor, fray and crack. It also becomes quite brittle.
My recommendation would be the nylon strap also but if you are pimping out an older boat I would recommend polyester nylon or nylon. It will last a lot longer.
