OK, here's a hypotheticial situtation. You are going to fish a bass tournament in Podunksville. You have never seen the lake before and there are some special rules. You are only allowed one rod, one reel and four lures (exact duplicates are allowed for losses). The questions are:
1) What rod would you select?
2) What reel and line would you select?
3) What four lures would you select in what color?

Have fun and share your thoughts.

It would depend on what kind of fish (largemouth, smallmouth, spotted bass). What time of year? What location(west coast, east coast, south)? If you want to get more specific I will play! How about a northwest lake, mid-spring, largemouth bass, water temp around 55 degrees, stained to clear water visibility.
1) 7' medium heavy rod
2) Baitcaster of your choice with 15# p-lineXXX
3) Two spinnerbaits (1) 3/8 oz., 1) 1/2 oz.)
One jig (3/8 oz. black/brown)
One tube (green pumpkin)

OK, let's stick with the conditions that Monkeyboy came up with. My idea was twofold. To give everyone a chance to express what their favorite all-around gear was and to give new fishermen on Ifish some idea of what kind of gear to be thinking about. You might even be more specific about brands of rod, reel, line a & lures.

Thanks for getting the ball rolling, Monkeyboy. graemlins/applause.gif

Since we have to pick largemouth (thanks monkey) instead of the ol brown bass here it goes.
1. Lamiglas (704J) casting
2. Curado BSF (14lb Excalibur)
3. GreenPumkin Jig with matching trailor (YUM)
Rattle spot by cotton cordell..Cromeblack
3 1/2 tube for skipping..smokecopper
Speed trap in a crawdad color
Lastly...I hope I never have to fish with just one rod and four lures...leave it to a bass to humble ya.

How much tackle does it take before they don't humble you?
Being rather new at bass fishing, I get humbled a LOT!

Ok, how about a clear water lake west coast to east coast. Canadian border to anywhere above the 35 parallel. Reluctantly leaving home the Rebel's, Cotton Cordell's, Excalibur's, Smithwick's, Heddon's, rapala's and about 100 other tackle choices and chasing Largemouth I would select the following:

Lamiglass medium action rod
Daiwa Laguna 2000 spinning reel/ Stren 10 lb clear blue florescent
1 Lucky craft flashminnow suspending jerk bait, color: ghost minnow
1 3/8 oz spinner bait, color: white/chartreuse skirt
1 4" soft plastic worm, color: watermelonseed
1 medium diving bandit crankbait, color: baby bass

I guess this is what I would choose if asked today. Tomorrow, who knows!

Since I started this, I guess I should select my choices too. I hesitated to do this since I don't have the experience the rest of you do. But since Bucketmouth's choices were very similar to mine, I guess I'll brave it.

Cabela's Pro Guide medium action rod
Shimano Sahara 2000 spinning reel/ DNA 10 lb. copolymer
1 Rapala floating minnow jerk bait, color: silver
1 3/8 oz spinner bait, color: white/chartreuse skirt
1 4" soft plastic worm, color: watermelon
1 medium diving Wigglewart crankbait, color: crayfish

I'm strickly an Ocean junkie but what the heck...

1. Rod would be a Buzz Ramsey IM7 Light weight
2. Probably a Aba with 10 to 15# Tri Line
3. Just some Jerk bait, cause I don't have a clue.
Probably some plastic worm, a Zera Spook, can I use live bait or real worms, cause I like them.

How did I do, I know I didn't win the tournament but did I place...................
