Smallmouth bass are a blast!
I’m wondering about Brownlee.
I assume the absolute most productive peak couple weeks of the whole year starts when the water temperature hits 59 degrees in the late spring (they are spawning then, I think….please catch and release.)
My question is: during this two-week peak, what’s a rough estimate of the typical number of fish caught/released in a day for, say, an “experienced” angler? I know this varies a lot, but are we talking 0-10, 50-60....what?
Any thoughts as to how many fish people catch (during it’s peak period) would be helpful.
Thanks!

I have easily caught 100+ during tournaments there. Lots of those are dinks, though. Last June I was dropshotting and my bait wouldnt reach bottom before I had a fish on. That went on the whole day.
For BIG fish think April/May. (prespawn)

I would venture to say 30-40 a day during that time, based on 10+ years of fishing that exact water at that exact time. Let's see how I do this year

I agree with 30 to 40 per day during prespawn. Most are 10 & 11 inchers.

I would say that an exceptional bass fisherman would have no trouble boating 100+ a day. Last year crappie fishing with just small jig we easily caught 45 fish each and were not targeting bass. We had a hard time getting to the crappie.  ...but the bass are sure fun on an ultra-light graemlins/applause.gif graemlins/applause.gif

I would have to agree with FISHRITE . Last year I caught so many BASS while I was CRAPPIE FISHING that I had to buy a new spinning reel. Ray Scott endorsed it for fishing light line . It is the first time he has ever endorsed a product .I can hardly wait to try it out at BROWNLEE . I was catching so many BASS WHILE I WAS FISHING FOR CRAPPIES and in water that I would normally not fish for BASS , that I had to have another spinning reel that would handle light line and still be able to land BASS . As if I needed another spinning reel , but it sounded good to me .

using a 1/16th ounce jig with a 3" grub in the month of may you should be able to catch at least a hundred fish a day. This should be a mix of smallmouth and crappie. I have had days of 400 fish with two people. This was when we had a good run off 4-5 yrs ago. I have caught 30-40 fish a hour in the last few years fishing from the bank all 3-4 lbs. This is off limits to fishing now so those days are over. Great fishing in the month of may most of the time.
