 I took my nephew a few yrs. ago and had a ball, I have since got him into the big game fish and hav'nt done it in a few yrs. so I dont know the details anymore, its great for the kids though. I would'nt mind doing it again. I think "shalom" might know the details.

The last time I went (a few yrs. ago) it was trout...they stocked alot of fish with different color tags, diff.colors=diff.prizes, It was alot of fun, especially the kids. I hav'nt checked or heard of it since so not sure this time, odfw should have some info on it.

My wife saw something in the paper this weekend, it is at Hagg Lake. I'll see if we still have the section of the paper and post some of the info. Apparently, you check in at the dock and they give you a sign for your boat and you are then qualified to fish the derby. I think it was the first Saturday in March.
Like I said, I will check and post more info if I can find it.

Last year I went out to the derby to see what it was all about and to see who was catching what. I did not fish in the derby. I got out there at about 12 noon. It was over by then. It was and is mostly a trout show. Bi Mart was giving away some gifts and handed me a plastic razor blade knife just for coming by the tent. It was a very miserable day last year and it was April 5th. I do not know why it is a month earlier this year.

The derby is also sponsored by KUIK. They don't have an rules posted but there is a flyer on their website, http://www.kuik.com/. The derby is on Saturday, March 6, from 6am - 2pm. It is for trout and there are prizes for 1st in with limit, the oldest angler, the heaviest trout and the longest trout. Boats leave from Boat Ramp C.
Hope this helps.

Sure will be interesting to see if any team catches a broodstock trout this time around, reported that hagg stocked these trophys last fall.

Fished Hagg Lake yesterday and saw only about 7 - 8 fish caught in boats. Marked fish at about 16 feet (therm?) and on the bottom. Had one (1) hit my trolled offering but never connected. Water temp was a cold 45.6 graemlins/berry.gif degrees. Heard of a 16"er checked in, and the largest non-trout was about a 4 ounce perch up until the time someone checked in a carp. That's two years in a row of a lot of people showing up in the cold (sun popped out for a little bit)for a multi-bladed utility knife. They did, however, give out a Miller Lite hat or a Stren fishing hat. I took the Stren. I think it was too early again. Opinion only.

I took my daughter and father-n-law out to Hagg saturday morning. There sure was a good turn out. We did catch some planters and was able to try for some bass with no success. I also got to try out my new electronics while the other fished. Lowrance x-125 on the bow was fun to find some new underwater rock piles and humps  .
My daughter actually caught the first 2 all buy herself. She is a 7 year old that has caught alot of fish in her life.
She yelled at me "DAD! DAD! I have one on!" and after about 15 seconds of fighting something she was actually hung up on the big motor. So I broke her off and tied on a new hook for her. She put a night crawler on and tipped it with powerbait (pink) and casted back in. After about 30 seconds she yells at me again..."DAD! DAD! I have one on!" I thought...YA RIGHT. Before we could do anything she was throwing a 1lbr over the side of the boat. Needless to say we about crapped our britches.
We had fun and she got to weigh her fish in and was on the leaderboard when we left at noon for heaviest trout at 16 ounces.
Here is a pic
