Can you put a boat in Lake Oswego?

Lake Oswego is a private lake. I had lake rights about 12 years ago and things might have changed. Bach then...you can put a boat on the lake if you have lake rights. For lake rights you had to own property on the lake or your property had lake rights through an easement. Plus you had to prove you had insurance (about twice what was "standard") and you had to get a "lake license".

You can't even put a kayak in unless you have lake access rights. For everyone else, fishing is restricted to the bank along the railroad tracks from State Street to the first property.

Is there decent bass in there?

Can you catch them from shore?

I didn't fish it until October or so last year and caught several smaller largemouth. Word is, that there are some nice sized fish in there though and yeah, they can be caught from teh entire stretch of shore that the public is allowed to use.

Park in the public lot across from the lake on State Street and Foothills Rd. As for the 'when' I would say around the regular spawning time in Late March, early April.

I have been invited by people who have lake access 3 times to fish there. YES, there are plenty of largemouth in Lake Oswego. In the spring, it is the most incredible fishery I have ever had the pleasure to fish.

I have never looked in to bank access on the lake, and am not sure where volforeen is talking about. But I would have to say it would be worth your time to check it out.

The first bass I ever caught came from Lake Oswego. Friend of mine lived on the lake next to the dam. We fished from his back porch/patio. We used a homemade jig he had tied up himself. This was back in the early 70's and at the time I knew very little about bass fishing. It's a bummer too, because my friend no longer lives on the lake.

The lake obviously has bass in it. Property rights are the barrier to access.

Well... let's all pitch in and buy a house on the lake.

I volunteer to stay there and take care of it even. :yay:

I've caught some real nice bass off the bank during the spawn in the area that Volfereen is talking about. There is a park were the railroad tracks cross State St. I used to fish my way down the tracks, stopping at each opening in the bushes to fish.

The trick to the Mighty L.O is access, access, access. In a prior career installing irrigation systems for L.O. residents I spent a lot of time putting somewhat legal pumps in boathouses. In the dark of the boathouse in the afternoon one can see any bass hiding just off the edge of the sunlight. I've seen some that would run at least 8 or 9 pounds, and my bassin buddy caught one fishing illegally under a canal bridge that went almost to 8 pounds. They are in there... figure out who to schmooze..

lightline, glad to see you back! :applause: Hows GP doing, I got my chains....Let's go fishing!

And as far as boat access on LO. Bearcatt88 nailed it on the head. I am no longer in the tackle industry, so needless to say I havent been offered a ride on LO for a few years. Oh well, it was fun at the time!

Now I just need to tripple my income so that I can afford a place on the lake.

I grew up on the main canal to Lake Oswego and fished the lake quite often. There are some real beasts in there. My next door neighbor caught the lake record of 8 lbs and some odd ounces but that was back in the late early 1980's. There are also MONSTER crappie and other panfish in there. I have caught crappie out of there while bass fishing that went over 2 lbs and some brute bluegill. I have caught yellow perch in the 17 - 18 inch range. It is also one of the few places I have fished around here that has a very healthy population of Warmouth.
