If your going to Hagg it opens March first. I would start out either in the sain creek or scoggins creek arms. There is a large picnic area over by boat ramp C. Try there early in the morning with spinners, I like Chartruse this time of year. Walk up by the creek channel. there is great spawning grounds and you can make a killing. I have caught quite a few big fish up there. Also hit it with senkos. I use a green senko or I use the Yum "senko" that has a green top and a white belly. EIther work very very well. In the evenings they hit poppers. I really dont know about the small mouth out of Hagg. I have only caught the largemouth. I caught one small mouth in the Scoggins creek arm with a blue and black Yum senko. I am down for a little fishing trop to Hagg when it opens. A buddy of mine will probably be going but we would be glad to have company to fish with. I most likely wont be going on opening day but the first saturday after it.

Lots of smallmouth but it Opens later. I have had lots of luck with chartruese worms and small spinnerbaits on smallmouth. My best luck has been up near A ramp and working toward the dam. It sometimes is slow when it first opens. The hardest part is the crowds that come for the planted trout, they can crowd everywhere. Good luck.

Henry Hagg Lake Opens March 5th the first Saturday in March 2005.
I like the North end for Largemouth and the South end for Smallies. Both species can be taken throughout the lake but early they seem to be seperated more than in the summer.
The best fishing for Smallmouth seems to come by about the middle of May. At least they are not so few and far between at that time. The biggest smallies come earlier though and can be tough to find.
You can sight fish for the Largemouth by late April and well into May. I have not done that much in past years but may give it more of a try this year.
The Trout anglers are not really much of a problem if you are fishing the lake from a boat. From shore however, they can be thick at times.
Who wants to come with me in the boat?

i love throwing rooster tails at all kinds of fish.i just love reeling in and feeling the strick and then the fight, plus they come in so many different colors and can usually find them in the bi mart ads for 99 cents each.they would have to be my go to lure either in black or red or even yellow.when will everybody start to really hit the waters for bass.i usually just fish largemouth at local lakes and it seems that usually later in the year is best, but i might give it a go early this year
