Last season, I used only Maxima Chameleon for bass. Results varied, and I liked its toughness. This season, I think I am going to go with the Ultragreen as I find it has a very low memory and mends well. I used UG for salmon/steelhead leaders for the last 9 months and that stuff is pretty damn good, as I pre-tie all of my leaders.
For the record, I had used trilene XL for the past 20 years or so and didn't like its longevity. ...same with XT
Man, I love braided line.... thinking of using it as backing in some situations...at the very least to be able to interchange reels between salmon/bass and not having to respool.

Hey Volforeen, hows the stealie fishing going?
I've mainly used Maxima Ultragreen and that's all you'll find on my reels. Great toughness and castability. Tried a spool of Trilene and found it weak and prone to line breaks.
Was tempted to try that Sufix stuff, anyone try it yet?

For the last six seasons I have been using Stren and have been happy with it. This year, I want to experiment a bit and try some other lines. I'm going to go to Sigma 6 lb test for light line situations. Also going to try some Vanish Fluorocarbon this season. Got some sufix DNA too.
So with some new lines to work with this year, I'll let you know later which works best for me.

Everyone will have there favorite brand , and mine is STREN ORIGINAL BLUE . I Have used it for 55 years . I have tried all of the better lines at one time or an other and keep coming back to STREN . I like the strenght and durability of it . There are a lot of good fishing lines available , but STREN HAS BEEN GOOD TO ME .

Hey V,
I saw you with that fancy line last year. I'll give you my sales pitch again for Ande Mono...I think it is even made by Maxima in Germany. It is cost effective and high quality!! I use the 6lb for spinning and 10lb for casting.

I was not pleased with the Vanish I tried either bucketmouth and for the same reasons as Volfereen. Maybe it's endorsed by Tonya Harding.

This is what works great for me (every one has a line they like). For s.m. bass I use 6-8 pound stren magnathin! It's thin cast farther and senco lures sink a bit faster. For big l.m. bass I use 14 pound fireline with a flouro leader at 15 pound test (I almost never break off a monster with this setup).Great question :applause: :applause: Roger
There is a line called "carbon pro", Its the best I have fished but it's very spendy!!!!!!!!!

I'm a big fan of McCoy's, and use it exclusively. Original Stren is stretchy, Magnathin breaks easily, etc. McCoys seems to have a good combo of stretch (not very stretchy) and lack of memory. I'll switch up to big game on my baitcasters if fishing Clear Lake, and have used some Fluoro (need to use fluorocarbon more often than I do!), but stick with the McC in the other cases. BTW... have plenty of spools with PowerPro on 'em for the braids.

I used mono for years until a friend turned me on to P-Line.It's a co-polymer line with florocarbon coating. Invisable under water, but a highly visable blue above.Has good limpness for casting, good knot strength, and seems pretty durable. Haven't broke off any fish yet.

I like the PRADCO lines, Super Silver Thread for baitcasters and Excalibur for spinning. Have some of the new An40, but haven't really tested it enough to decide if I like it or not. I'm looking for McCoy's new CLEAR copolymer. McCoy's is good stuff, but I can't see the green well enough. Last year, I tried Izorline XXX on a spinning rig, and soon got a mess of it snarled up. Took it off and reloaded with McCoy's, and had a great day. Also tried P-Line FloroClear last year. It wasn't horrible, but I wouldn't buy it again. Lots of guys in our club are real happy with BPS Excel. C&R, Steve

I am newly back into the bassin game and this is what I have done for this year
2 flipping sticks with 60lb spierwire ( for flipping in heavy cover)
4 bait casters with 15 lb berkley gig game ( pitching and throwing spinnerbaits)
4 bait casters with 10 lb cuda platnium flurocarbon coated mono cuda platnium ( won in a raffle) i'll use this for crankbaits primarily
I have not yet determined what i am going to choose for my 3 spinning rods though in the past trilene XL has worked very well but i am considering a flurocarbon
for the guys using ultragreen, it is a good line and works well on both spinning and casting application but you've got to keep it out of the light when not in use, it softens and weakens very quickly compared to other monos i have tried... I use ultragreen for steelhead but I respool often!!!

I prefer spider wire mono. I have used it for a couple years and it has worked great, BUT I really prefer toughline braided. I use 20 pound test but it is the size of 6lb mono. I really think that it does its job well. I was bass fishing the other day and had a big steelhead in Vernonia Pond take my senko. It fought well and handled the fish well. this with the combo or my 6 ft Ugly Stick sure didnt hurt. The steel head was 8 pounds and believe me the tough is something i live by and die by.

P-line! Original blue for spinning rods, and CXX for baitcasters. It is the strongest line I have ever used except for braid.
