Have you looked at Kistler rods? Their DS rod has a great price/preformance ratio. (http://www.kistlerrods.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=KDSS69&Categ ory_Code=fresh-graphite-spinrod)
Notice the lack of fore-grip on the handle; your fingertip will appreciate it.

Everyone has there favorites...I personally use the Lami's and have been very pleased. Both with customer service and quality. Check out their rods at the show this week.

I have the All Star rods ( 7'). Two of them and love them.
Any of the above listed rods will be great. I think it's a Chev. Ford thing

I've got a loomis GL2 7'-6" 6-12lb spinning rod in good shape. Will make someone a good deal on it if interested. Would a great bass rod, or perfect walleye rod.
Thanks,

I have Lamiglas rods too. But another good drop shot rod is made by fenwick and the price is right. I have not had a fenwick for awhaile, but I do miss it.

I like the Lamis a lot, and use different rods for different drop shotting conditions. I'll go as low as a 661 for very light conditions, on up to the IMC700 equivalent of a 664 for heavier conditions. Lami's Certified Pro 703 is a bit slower action, with a softer tip and nice flex. It is similar to a lot of other companies "drop shot" rods, and may be a good all around rod at a great price. In any event, I'm moving toward seven footers, and still prefer higher modulus blanks for the sensitivity. jb

I've also been thinking about a DS rod, hopefully it would also be ok for splitshotting and light C'rigging. I just went to the Lamiglas website. The CS 701 looks like a good choice at $104. Anybody using this one? The Kistler looks good, also. My current long spinning rod is a 7' Berkley Series 1 "Splitshot Special". I had two, broke one. PO'd? ARRRRRGH! That's why I don't like expensive rods. They can break. I have a theory that the more expensive a rod is, it will increase the chances of it getting broken. It's all very scientific, too. :smash:    C&R, Steve
PS: Does Lamiglas let dealers discount, or are they price controlled like GLoomis? I admit it, I have a problem with the ethics of that.

I think they do. I have the Competitor 66x? (I can't remember but it has a 4 power rating and is 6'6") and according to the catalog its MSRP is $104.00 and places normally sell it for about $80.00. I bought it at Outdoor Emporium (seattle) for $60.00. I hope that's what you mean.
I too like Lamiglas and have two rods, the one mentioned above and a Norwest Special. I've yet to try drop shotting but I will when I get the chance.

I went up to Outdoor Emporium today, to look for a Lamiglas 7' rod suitable for DS and lite C'rig. They moved to 4th Ave. So. last May, and now have a very nice store. Looked at one "G.Lamiglas" that might have been a leedle stiff, then one that seemed a bit too soft...XPS 703 and 702... they were $125. Then two that were just right, one at $102. The one I picked was the CS 701! AND it was 'on sale' for $64. Nice rod, at a very good price.
This was my first trip to the new O.E. store, and it is much nicer, easier for me to get to, roomy, and they're bringing in more BASS gear! Recommended...check them out if you are in the Seattle area. There is also a Bass Seminar scheduled for March 19, 1pm-3pm. Pro-Staffers are being lined up now for the Seminar. They mentioned Jeff Boyer, I mentioned Bobby Forester (Spokane) and Marc Marcantonio (Steilacoom). If you're in the area, be there...C&R, Steve

I'm not very good with numbers but Lamiglas is coming out with a new series of 11 bass rods...I want to say " X Series" or " XPS". I've been looking at them at the show and they have a 702 which is OH SO LIGHT and FAST. Should be out pretty soon and it's also suppossed to be tougher. Can't wait to try it. Technolegy just seems to be getting better.

For you Lami fans, the "X" is for the Certified Pro series. "S" is for Spinning and "C" is for Casting. So, an XS703 is a Certified Pro Series, Spinning Rod, 7'0" long, 3 Power. Hope that helps anyone looking for Lamiglas rods. jb

When I went, I took a list of 5 Lamiglas rod numbers that seemed likely to be suitable. The prefix was XPS, XS, CS and MBS! All came from the Lamiglas website. The rest was always 701, 702 or 703. The CS701 was more powerful than the XPS702. Please 'splain that! C&R, Steve

well I haven't posted anything in quite awhile. I just got a computer so I guess I'm back. I fish alot of Loomis rods and for a drop shot rod I use a CBR 783C. I like the casting because its a little more forgiving on line twist. The new 702 LIMI that wannabe was talking about feels like a gread rod.

The easiest way to answer hard Qs is to duck 'em and run for cover! But, alas, I'm still here. Your Qs are well taken. I can't answer all of your Qs re the Lami codes, but can answer a couple. CC = competitor series, casting; The "F" in XFT = fiberglass; CS = competitor series spinning; SR = Skeet Reese series; etc. Again, not sure what all the codes are (don't fish all the rods), but i do hope this will help you. In any event, the guys at Lamiglas are real helpful, and can give you the scoop on any codes I missed. jb

I'll wait until I "run into" j.d. stocking shelves at the market. Around here, when you wave at someone they just think you're being neighborly.

I have got both Lami and Loomis. Both great rods. I only broke the Lami and the customer service was great!! In my opinion you can't go wrong with either.

What an amazing number of replies. I agree with the posts that you can't go wrong with Lami's vs. Loomis's. But, compare apples to apples. There are different levels of rods with both mfrs. Look at modulus, action, handle length, etc., etc.. They'll all affect performance. If you really want to get dialed in, just get the blank, find a good rod maker, and have it made to your specs. You can sometimes save money this way, and get exactly what you want. Food for thought!
