Fishery managers make Gill-Nets more Effective by lowering the standards

The departments want to up the allowable kill on native steelhead for the Columbia gill netters.

The Feds, NOAA, conclude that it's "not likely to jeopardize the contiued existence of the threatened fish.

SURE, THEY'LL STILL EXIST, BUT WHAT ABOUT RECOVERY, REBUILDING, STRENGTHENING!!

There has been a lot of public support for keeping a small cap on the kill of these fish, we have momentum.

Now, this Friday is our last chance. This commission can stop this needless slaughter of prized and special fish. If you fish any of the Columbia or uppper Willamette rivers for steelhead these are your fish.

Every angler that can be in Troutdale this coming Friday morning should attend the ODFW Commission meeting at the Sam Cox building in Glenn Otto Park, on the west bank of the Sandy River in Troutdale. (This is the same location used by the Sandy River Chapter for their chapter meetings.) The meeting starts at 800 AM.

See you there, we need to :argue: our point.

Make plans to attend this meeting Tomorrow, Friday 11th.

Not only are the protected, wild, native steelhead in trouble with this but so are all late returning hatchery steelhead that we have worked so hard for.

IT WORKED!

Thank you to all who wrote letters and e-mails and more importantly THOSE THAT SHOWED FOR THE MEETING! Without bodies at these meetings we will go down.

The commission held at a 2% cap on the incidental kill of wild steelhead. It was a 4-3 vote, so we barely got it.

Now nagotiations have to be made with the state of Washington as their commission voted to cap the incidental kill at 4%. It might not be over....

Again, THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR STEELHEAD
