Thought I'd give you the heads up that I just finished another article for ifish.
I'd like some feed back from you, here, if you use Smelly Jelly on your plastics?
How have you been doing on those smallmouth?
Thanks,

I use Smelly Jelly and other scents too. I am a beliver in scents because it is a well known fact that fish can smell considerably better than dogs. This can only translate to better fishing when usings scents such as Smelly Jelly.
However, I do not have figures to show that I catch more fish using scents than when I do not use scents. I keep records of fish caught but generally do not detail weather I have used scents or not on any given fishing trip.
Smallmouth at Hagg lake are in the beginning of their summer pattern now and the fishing has been pretty good using plastics.

re Smallies: Fished the Umpqua - Elkton area - on Friday last. Boat fishing using plastics we boated well over 100 amoung the three of us. Five were over 15 inches. Many different colors worked at various times of day but most consistant was something in the tequila sunrise/june bug direction. We didn't have smellyjelly to try but did apply lots of garlic scent. Not sure if it made a difference. EH

Personally, my catch rates go way up when I use Smelly Jelly. I dont think that it causes more bites, but the ones you do get hold on to the bait longer and you dont miss them. There's nothing like the smell of Bass Feast in the morning!! Yummy!

That's my experience also. You're saying the same thing I endeavored to point out in my story. Scent doesn't make 'em jump in the boat. It does help them grab and hold on.
Incidentally, I drifted the John Day out of Fossil with guide Steve Fleming last week. My partner and I had 95 smallmouth. Our largest fish ran around 17 inches.
We also fished Steve's private bass lake. We probably boated 50 largemouth. Ten to 12 of them ran from 2 to 6-pounds. I got one 7-pounder and Steve says it's one of the largest to come out of the remote little lake.
By the way, Steve is another guy who uses Smelly Jelly scents. Here's a man who is on the water darn near every day. He's a firm believer in the use of scents.
If you want a super fishing experience, line up a trip with Fleming. His toll-free number is
