What is the best place to camp within a few hours of Portland at a lake with most species(trout, bass, crappie, cats). We were thinking about Craine Praire or BillyChinook. We need a first come first serve place unless some places have openings. We already have a boat, so rentals are not needed.HELP!!

King I'd head somewhere on the Cascade Lakes Highway. That would include Crane, Wickiup, Cultus, Lava, and a few streams that would be around for fishing. I'm betting it wont be as crowded up there as normal so that could be a great spot..

Cascade lakes would be a good spot if that wildfire wasn't ablaze down by davis lake. Very smokey and parts have been evacuated. So if you go there do check before you go. Cascade lakes hwy was closed and I think it still is.

Timothy lake has many unreservable sites. I was up there today and Medatation Point full, but if you get there early enough there were still some sites on the N. side of the lake.

You might try Clear Lake on Mt. Hood. Lots of free unimproved campsites all around the lake. Good fishing trolling for rainbows and brook trout.

Are the sites at timothy dry camping? We don't have a generator for our trailer yet.

Most are dry, they have water avaiable and bathrooms. Here is a great link to camping around Mt. Hood

Click on the highlighted names and it will take you to the reservations part, from there you can see what sites are first come first serve.

Prineville Reservoir would be another possibility. It has all the species you mentioned.
I don't know about needing reservations or not but you could call the forestservice and find out or maybe even do a search.
