Does anyone know if Vernonia pond is fishable or is the algae too heavy?

It's alway's fishable Jacob. The fish are there, you just have to adjust your technics to the time and area.
Good luck!

Thanks, Rebell,
A little late in getting back to this, but I thought I would give a short report.
My wife had busilness there on Sunday, so my son and I checked it out for a couple of hours from the bank.
It was last Sunday and it was cool and showering. We found some bluegills of some size and my son caught a good size black crappie. It wasn't crowded, the water was in good shape and so were the fish we caught.
Additionaly we were told there were some large bass there. I've fished there befor, but but only in the spring for planter trout.

When I was a wee lad  I fished vernonia lake alot. You would see some huge bass in there. The local ticket to catching the big ones was a hole nightcrawler fished carolina style (injected with air, so it would float) at night.
I have caught some nice fish in the pads on spinnerbaits and on buzzbaits, right before dark.
I would think a senko would be bad medicine on the bass in there.
Since they did all of the improvements there, I don't know if it is still open to fishing at night (maybe park regulations?)
There are some good crappie in there (at least there was)
Glad to here that the bluegills are getting some size. They were only 3-4" the last time I caught some out of there. They were very over-populated.

Jacob,
Glad you had some success. Jellyhead gave some great tips for the bass, one other thing you might try on your next trip is a tube bait, I have had some good day's on Vernonia pond with them in the past. The usual colors seem to work there, green pumpkin, pumpkinseed, and black with red flake.
Good luck, and let us know how you do.

Thanks Rebell, I was thinking of heading up there with My pontoon boat and fly rod one summer evening to see what happens. Could be interesting.
Also a quick note for Snowball: The crappie my son caught was just off the dock on the right (south?)side of the lake.
