Try running spinner baits thru the weeds, and over the top of the weeds, in the upper end of the lake, in 5 to 10 feet of water. Try to find the channel up there, and try throwing Senkos on the channel edge of the weeds, in 10 feet of water or so. Good luck!

Stay away from the place on sunny weekends!!

It's a play lake for the ski/jetski crowd, and unless you want to be off the lake shortly after sun-up I'd go somewhere else.
Cottage Grove Res. is just a bit past Dorena, it's a play lake too but has a large no wake zone at the upper end of the lake, that's where the best bassin' is. I think that the fish might run bigger at Dorena though, maybe one of the Eugene area bassers will chime in here and give you more info.

The last couple of years the wife and I spent a few days at Cottage Grove in mid to late July. Top water early and late, some crankin'(baby bass color) just ticking the weed tops and 7" black/blue worms dropped around weed edges and drop offs. All in the upper no wake zone.

Good luck if you go I'm envious, we waited too long to get resevations and couldn't get the dates we needed.

All you need to do is look at the
Dorena report pics to know you want to fish it. From the launch take a right turn and fish the right hand bank under trees along the rock walls. Senko's do verry well there. You can go up to the grass flats and drag Senko's through there also. Also up there is the Creek channel that has fish along the grass line's. Good luck, and tight lines, Hagen.

I was there last Friday evening, Man those fish are hot and they are big. Three hours of fishing produced 20 fish all over 3lbs. The biggest was 5.6lbs. Morning and evenings are best no matter what the weather. We were fishing the edges of the grass. on the far end of the lake. The biggest came from creek inlet shallow and I do mean shallow. This fish was running with five others all the same size save one it had to be better than eight lbs. I will be there tomorrow evening.

If you have the opportunity fish either of these lakes (Dorena or Cottage Grove) at night. It will really turn on around 11pm or so. Use black or chartruse spinner blades in the upper ends of these lakes on the flats.

I grew up in Cottage Grove and we used to do this on summer nights. We always caught fish even when we were off the bank.
