Myself and some other parents are going to be taking a group of Cub Scouts to Ft. Stevens for a camping trip on the free fishing weekend and the boys really are looking forward to fishing. I have fished there once before with very little luck but I would appreciate any help to increase their odds of success. I read that excess hatchery adult steelhead were released in there so it would be fun if they could hook into some of these. Any tips on where and how to fish this lake would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Randy

A nightcrawler under a bobber is hard to beat. Everything that swims in coffenbery will eat a nightcrawler. The bobber will help suspend your bait off the bottom........Good luck!

I prefer to use spinners such as a panther martin or a rooster tail. But if you want a variety in what you catch(trout, perch,or even bass),I would definetely recommend what rebell suggested. Also powerbait can be good at times.

small rooster tail with a brass blade. The brass blade being important.

The last two times I was there (one was last week) Rainbow Powerbait was the ticket. Put a sliding sinker above a swivel. Use a 12 inch or so leader below the swivel with a #10 or #12 treblehook. Put just enough Powerbait on the hook so it floats. The Point on the west side of the lake and off the docks has been good.
