FEAR NO FISH!

Jake and I hit it this afternoon and caught about 25 smallies with Jake getting the biggest at 17 inches. Anchored by a bass pro and offended him by hanging three in a row. Was told we had got to close to his spot. I replied he was on my river and told him to go jump through his ###! graemlins/icon_argue.gif Gosh I hate holier than thou attitudes. Once he left I invited three other boats to come on in and help us catch some of these smallies! A great time was had by everyone. These other boats had been warned off by the bass pro. Sheesh the nerve of some people. http://www.ifish.net/uploads/211022147.jpg

Nice fish! graemlins/applause.gif
That "Pro" sounded like a real jerk. graemlins/berry.gif Met several like that in 2000 when I participated as an amatuer in the Infisherman's PWT Tournament on Fort Peck. A lot of them were very stand-offish and didn't seem to have much use for anybody that wasn't in their immediate circle. Noticed a lot of individual clicks throughout the bunch, and they stuck to themselves. Did meet a few nice, friendly Pro's, but they were in the minority, or so it seemed. Guess it must be a function of the competition and money involved for some.
Do you fish the Yak throughout the summer?

Born to Fish,
I love fishing the Yak as it is only 2 blocks from where I live. I also like running up to the Hanford Reach to chase smallies too. Let me know if you ever want to experience it. It is almost as pretty as the Grand Canyon.

I have a 3.2 megapixel Toshiba. Since this is such a zipperlip destination, I can't be too specific. Although I will tell you that it is right at the mouth! Right in the rip. Anchored in 2 feet of water. If you have a prop, be careful of rocks when the water is down.

Steve, thanks for the offer. I'll probably be getting back in touch with you in late June or early July if you're still up for it. I'm pretty much committed to other "adventures" and business trips between now and then.
I'd also like to spend some time up in the Potholes area either this summer or in the fall, but fall might not be such a good idea if a night time assault above McNary is in the offering.

Nice fish Steve: I love to see kids catching fish young. What an experience.  Making memories that will last a lifetime!! My son is 26, and he is driving all the way from Medford to the "Big D" to fish with me this weekend graemlins/applause.gif graemlins/applause.gif ....but I started him young and he now has a passion for fishing. Fishrite

FNF - I'm not at all familiar with your area. Believe someone once described the Hanford Reach to me as a "free flowing section of river unimpeded by dams.....". Almost poetic.
At any rate, got the impression that it wasn't an area condusive to the use of my bass boat with prop engine. More for jet sleds.
From what you said about your spot at the mouth of the Yak - 2 feet of flowing water, that'd also be dicey for someone like me unfamiliar with the waters in my kind of boat.
I'll definitely look forward to the nocturnal trip this fall. I've fished with MOJO a few times [yeh Team Moose Drool] and he mentioned the trip that didn't work out with you last year and was interested in hooking up with you again. Maybe he and I can team up again and join you for some blood-letting. Denali would be another fun person to hook up with on something like that [don't know how many folks you care to have on board]    Both of these guys are very [much more then me] knowledgable, and a class act, whereas I'd provide the local color commentary on whatever happens at the moment. graemlins/dork.gif
Back to my original question about fishing the Potholes area in the summer - is that something you do or does it get too hot, too windy, and/or the water too low?

Born to Fish,
The Potholes area is good all through the Summer. Lots of spiny rays there. You would enjoy the Hanford Reach. Besides Smallies there are big Sturgeon too. The state record for Smallies came from the Reach. Lots of Salmon and Steelhead there too.

Steve, good to see you get out there and keep your growing boy into fishing and out of trouble. And way to not let that mean bass pro push you around. Those bass pro guys can be a little intimidating. I wonder what he thought of the boat.
Are you coming down from summer chinook opener?
