Does anyone have drop shot molds? I have a bunch of led and would like to pour some drop shot weights. Do not have a mold, but if anyone has one, I would be glad to share my led. My crucible is available for your use too if I can share in the use of your mold. Please PM me.

I have both the round and the cylindrical molds, if you pick up some swivels at fishermens marine, your more than welcome to come over and pour as many as you need.

I also have plenty of drop shot baits you can look at. I have been spending some time pouring up some new baits. As soon as the river clears some more and the water temp hits 45 degrees, I am on the river! :dance:

Rather than deal with the hassle and expense of a dedicated weight, I just crimp on a splitshot above a knot tied at the end of the line. If I believe that there's a chance of hangups, I don't use a knot so that the sinker will slide off.
I think that this is a viable option that's much easier and cheaper.
Here's a conversion table:
SIZE 1/OUNCE

BB =1/55
3/0 =1/40
7 =1/20
5 =1/16
4 =1/13
2 =1/9
1 =1/6

I understand what your saying BuKuBass, but with dropshoting you get a lot of line twist.

I use the Do-It mold line grip swivels, you can get a bag of 100 for around 7 dollars (if I remember right). With the line grip swivels you can easily pull off of hang ups, and still keep line twist to a minamum. The molds are an investment, but a buddy split the cost with me, and now we can sit down and have a seasons worth of weights in no time.

Maybe we need to have an ifish weight pouring get together? I also have a split shot mold for those who don't want to buy the swivels.

Any takers? It could be a good learning lesson for everyone.

I like to use hollow pencil lead. I just cutoff what I need and crimp it on. If it hangs up it usually just pulls off. Works real well especially in deep water.

I prefer the dedicated cylindrical type drop shot weight with the swivels. I have used the hollow core led pinched on the line. It does not work as well for me. running the line through the swivel is quicker and easier less messy and if you pour a hundred of them, they pay for themselves before you know it. Besides, I have all this lead I would like to put to use.

Rebell, thank you very much for the offer. I will PM you to work out details. I also like the idea of having a lead pouring party. I have lots of lead and will donate it to whoever would like to join in.

Let's put this together gang! It should be a lot of fun and a great learning experience for everyone.

I have a few pounds of lead around, so lead should not be a problem. If you wan't splitshot weights, I have you covered. If it's dropshot weights, no problem. I also have a good tube jig weight mold, but have not found a hook locally that I am happy with. I am looking in to some Mustad hooks at the moment. I am trying to keep the cost down on these because I seem to donate way to many to the river to spend a lot of money on Gami's or Owner's.

Wannabe, maybe you could help me out with a decent, but cost effective hook for a tube jig?

Ahhh...one of the benefits of using TufLine XP with a fluoro leader is that line twist isn't a problem; not to mention the increased sensitivity, lack of line stretch, better abrasion resistance...
Just received some Stren Super Braid; will be using it tomorrow with a float'n'fly presentation now that the river has thawed.
Y'all have fun with your lead pouring party. I'll be, with apologies to Jim Stafford, "Just sittin' here, on that sack of sinkers".

shalom, bucketmouth and I are in the process of putting something together for this coming Saturday afternoon. If the time I picked works for bucketmouth (and everyone else) I will post an invitation for everyone on a seperate thread. That will make it easier to send a pm back to everyone with directions.

Anyone who is intrested, keep an eye on the board. I will have something up by tommorow afternoon at the latest.

I'm with "CODFISH"! I do not get line twist with the pncl wt. And it works great in the rocks too. And as for cost you cannt touch it. all the drop shot wt. types work well and I use all from time to time. Its real quick to clip off some if you start hanging up to much. You are all right Fishing is GREAT! Roger

rebell,
I too go through a lot of hooks and have found that Mustad Ultra Points work just great for me. Not as expensive but do the job well. Off hand can't remember what the cost was but they are cheaper I believe.

Hey REBEL do you go to the Bass club meeting? Maybe you could teach some of us there. Just a thought. I know I would like to learn but I am not sure if I will have to work on the Sat. that you guys get together.

I am not able to make the thursday meeting. But in the future if anyone is intrested, I would be willing to do a demonstration. It's very simple, safety is the biggest issue when it comes to pouring lead!

If you can make it saturday dragon67, send me a pm.

Bucketmouth,

Just bought a Lee production pot myself and have a cylindar mold for the drop shot weights. Email me if you want to hook up and do some pouring. I would like to learn also. I am located in SE Portland.

I have some lead also and would be happy to get together with anyone who would be willing to melt it for me. I am always looking for new ideas and better ways to catch the big one
